Since you look to be deep into this, let me take the opportunity and ask what do you think of the vhs-decode project. Today's tools are already overkill for vhs, but what if you could squeeze every magnetic bit out of those medias? when I think floppy preservation nowadays, i think about flux copies and wonder if we're not also leaving some more on the plate (like teletext pages that are able to be ripped from home recordings).

I miss aertel It was a one-way(excl pg 777) internet without all the hate and doom and gloom and disagreements. Loved the aesthetic of it with the black background. No ads, no clickbait, just good times. Through times of boom and times of bust, late at night or during a match, It was there for us :)

How does one "recover" teletext data, you may wonder.

No problem, sounds like it's a hellish task recovering them though. If you're a Linux user you can join in as it's still an ongoing project.

This is really cool! Speaking of retro, the fact that this is possible, emphasizes just how fast modern hardware is.
The Atari 2600 has its CPU in lockstep with the graphics output. There are CPU 76 cycles during a scanline. While I've only toyed around with programming the Atari 2600, it still boosted my intuition about the relationship of compute time to real time. A single frame, 1/60th of a second, is just about the briefest perceptible period of time to a human. How many bytes can you copy during an entire frame? A couple kilobytes. And during one scanline? About 8 bytes, or in modern terms, just enough time to copy one uint64_t.
In the same amount of time, that of drawing a scanline, a modern machine can chew through this loop: https://github.com/LMP88959/NTSC-CRT/blob/main/crt.c#L442 and apparently with plenty of time to spare.

edit.tf - An in-browser editor for teletext frames.
cool-retro-term - A good looking terminal emulator which mimics the old cathode display...
