From a structural viewpoint, we use a monorepo (Turborepo) to manage packages, even though we currently have only one Next.js app. We chose this setup because it prepares us for future developments, which will include additional apps. This arrangement helps keep the packages well-separated and self-contained.

The Dockerfile might seem a bit complicated (it is), but the reason for that is mostly just turborepo and the need for good caching. Realistically, you will only need to change the last line, if at all. It is based on this awesome Github Issue.

Previously we mapped each Vercel project to a single Supabase project. With this release, we're introducing the concept of project 'Connections'. Supabase projects can have an unlimited number of Vercel Connections. This is especially useful for monorepos using Turborepo.

One detail I enjoy from this post is that sometimes you can just call a CLI[0]. It's easy to spend a lot of time figuring out how to expose some Rust/C code as a library for your language, but I like the simplicity of just compiling, shipping the binary and then calling it as a subprocess.

Yes, there's overhead in starting a new process to "just call a function", but I think this approach is still underutilized.

  • Build a Vite 5 backend integration with Flask
    11 projects | dev.to | 25 Feb 2024
Unlike Webpack, the Vite DevServer only compiles files when they are requested. It leverages ES module imports, which allow JS files to import other files without needing to bundle them together during development. When one file changes, only that file needs to be re-compiled, and the rest can remain unchanged. Project files are compiled with Rollup.js. Third-party dependencies in node_modules are pre-compiled using the ultra-fast esbuild bundler for maximum speed, and they are cached until the dependency version changes. Vite also provides a client script for hot module reloading.

  • How to run TypeScript natively in Node.js with TSX
    1 project | dev.to | 28 Nov 2023
TSX is the newest and most improved version of our ts-node, using ESBuild to transpile TS files to JS very quickly. The most interesting part is that TSX was developed to be a complete replacement for Node, so you can actually use TSX as a TypeScript REPL, if you install it globally with npm i -g tsx, just run tsx in your terminal and you can write TSX natively. But what's even cooler is that you can load TSX for all TypeScript files using --loader tsx when you run your file. For example, let's say we have this file called index.ts:
