  • Designed a dual color topographic map of Utah with streams and lakes highlighted

The map scale is 1:2500000 with a 5x vertical exaggeration and the 3MF files have the base and waterline objects aligned for printing. USGS data, TouchTerrain, and DEM processing were used to generate the models. Chris, who is behind TouchTerrain, was very receptive to my feedback through the process and this would not be possible without his support.

Looking at the site you linked https://touchterrain.geol.iastate.edu/ and centering it on NYC shows no buildings at all, it's very flat. Same with using the source data "USGS 1m digital elevation model" on opentopography.org, it also has no buildings in it in NYC (unless I'm doing something wrong).

was all over that site earlier couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get anything I could use in with the HTerrain plugin, so I have been using https://touchterrain.geol.iastate.edu/ as suggested earlier it works I have it split up into 4 giant meshes, just need to smooth them out and then paint some textures on them

Yeah still doing some testing but you might be right. https://touchterrain.geol.iastate.edu (thanks to u/thepathgame) will actually "chunk" it up into whatever you want so for example, I am doing AZ and I have it in 4 sections just for now but could make it even smaller if needed which is def. going to be needed lol
  • My longest and most complex print yet - 81 hours to print a topographical map of the state of Colorado.

For anyone wondering about where I got the data: TouchTerrain. I’m looking to sell these at some point, so the rest of the process I’ll leave you all to figure out, but the site is awesome and worth playing with!
