3.x support will come to toltec, I've been blocked by stuff outside of my control a couple of times. Including things happening in my life that I won't get into.

Installing more features to the remarkable 1
https://toltec-dev.org/ is probably a good place to start. It is basically a package manager that helps helps you to manage and install all the additional software. I have never used it myself though, so can't tell you to much about it.

Once you are in, you can follow the instruction on https://toltec-dev.org and install repository to download further software.

Privacy on RM2
You can upload/download files from the cloud with rMAPI. You can also use rmFakeCloud to host your own sync cloud, so the files just go to your own computer/server. This works with rMAPI as well.

If I broke or lost my ReMarkable 2, would I be able to download all the old notes onto a new one?
You can also take backups using easy, convenient, community-written software, like RCU (which I'm the author of), reMy, reMarkable HyUtilities, rmExplorer, rmAPI, and many others found in the Awesome reMarkable list.

Portable desktop app solution
No need to compile. Just download rmapi-win64.zip and unzip the file. The program (suffix .exe) does not need further installation, no admin rights required.
rMAPI might work, depending on the level of restrictions imposed by your IT.
