overlay VS rtl8723du

Honestly, as has been described by others, if you've already got the hardware and there's a DKMS module just use or wrap that; it's not like a kernel module ebuild is terribly complex.

It seems to not be available in the Fedora repos nor in RPMFusion. You can install it from here: https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8723du

The problem is these things have a the crappy rtl8723du WiFi chipset that isn't in the mainline Linux kernel yet — or so I've read. There is a GitHub repo for the rtl8723du chipset driver. I might be able to convince myself to make an ebuild and throw it into GURU at some point in the future. Until that time, can someone here suggest a USB WiFi dongle that works well in a modern Linux kernel and (ideally) isn't physically overly large?

The wifi driver she uses has to be downloaded and compiled from github: https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8723du. She used a USB wifi adapter which worked seamlessly, but she wanted the USB port back so we went with the github option.

But I was thinking. If I installed everything I needed to boot the driver onto a flash-drive then just used the Linux terminal to install it from there? Bada bing bada boom the WiFi should work right? I have a GitHub repo for my exact card https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8723du is there a way to install git from a flash drive like I said earlier? I'd need git to run the repo, then I think it should work.

https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8723du is the WiFi driver that worked for me. Put it on to an SD card and keep it there so you can install it each time you reboot. It's going to be a pain in the butt but I don't think the driver is going to get upstreamed anytime soon.
