  • How to install Hedgemodmanager on Steam Deck as of November 2023 ?
    1 project | /r/linux_gaming | 9 Nov 2023
I've tried all of the known methods, the one using bottles:https://github.com/thesupersonic16/HedgeModManager/wiki/Running-on-Linux-(Wine), the one using Steamtinkerlaunch: https://github.com/sonic2kk/steamtinkerlaunch/wiki/Hedge-Mod-Manager and the one that used to work but doesn't anymore:https://linuxgamingcentral.com/posts/updated-sonic-frontiers-steam-deck-modding-guide/ The bottles method worked a few weeks ago (although a lot of codes and mods didn't work) but doesn't seem to work anymore, the program doesn't seem to recognize the .yml configuration file provided in the guide anymore, I even tried installing the dependencies manually but the game (Sonic Frontiers) doesn't load the mod loader (the game launches but without mods), perhaps bottles doesn't use .yml files anymore ? The Steamtinkerlaunch method using Proton 7.0 also manages to install hedgemodmanager but once the mod loader is installed the game simply won't launch (I even tried providing mscore.dll but doesn't seem to make a difference). The method detailed on linuxgamingcentral.com used to work but now doesn't anymore, probably because steamtinkerlaunch now also tries to install .net 40 and .net 48. I get an error along the lines of "error, couldn't load mscore.dll to display the correct error message, please reinstall. Net". I'm losing my mind over this. Does anyone of you have hedgemodmanager working on Steam Deck ? If so how did you do it ?

Hey. I'm currently trying to get LiveSplit to run in the same Proton instance as a game (so I have the autosplitter available). I've managed to get that working by using SteamTinkerLaunch (https://github.com/sonic2kk/steamtinkerlaunch/wiki)

There's steamtinkerlaunch for vortex/modorganizer there's also protontricks to mess around with each game proton prefix and etc. You'll have to Google these to get a better explanation but these are just the options I know of.

  • Are third party clients against steam tos?
    4 projects | /r/Steam | 19 Jun 2023
However, Steam has been long offering https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD (command line, no UI) as an alternative to normal Steam Client so you can install that (replaces the current) and add either https://github.com/dmadisetti/steam-tui or https://github.com/DioJoestar/SteamCMD-GUI that uses SteamCMD but offers a functional UI, the alternative you're seeking for.
  • The new Steam UI is and always has been a massive disappointment.
    2 projects | /r/Steam | 4 Jun 2023
Lucky for you, https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD still works as the No-UI command line interface that's sole purpose is to act as a DRM-checking layer that is stripped from all the bloatware latest Steam Beta offers in the name of fancy. And if you combine that https://github.com/dmadisetti/steam-tui or https://github.com/DioJoestar/SteamCMD-GUI, you'll get yourself a still functional and manageable but not so good looking DIY Steam Client, totally legit.
  • Steam taking up 3gb of memory? Possible memory leak in the beta branch?
    2 projects | /r/Steam | 23 May 2023
What can you do? Luckily so far https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD (Command Line UI) is still working for the lowest consumption and Players are fighting to keep it alive via Projects like https://github.com/DioJoestar/SteamCMD-GUI or https://github.com/dmadisetti/steam-tui but I'm pretty sure that stupid developer will also convince Gaben to get rid of them sooner or later.

GOG performs poorly because of its many Integrations hogging the resources & they're using Python as their language which is the main reason. Battlenet doesn't worth mentioning because they sell a dozen games, it's publisher store. Xbox client isn't great but LTSC is great as there are many negative posts about it on r/pcgaming. If you want performance, try Steam TUI + PlayNite, lightning fast.
  • Does -no-browser no longer work?

You may try https://github.com/dmadisetti/steam-tui but no guarantees because not all games work on SteamCMD.
  • Steam Client WebHelper memory leak

Solution? Almost none but fan made projects like https://github.com/dmadisetti/steam-tui that doesn't work for all game installs and running. Steam is sadly proving Newer isn't always the Better. So enjoy your RAM Monster that will eventually "force" you to buy new gear.

  • Any Third-Party steam clients?
    3 projects | /r/linux_gaming | 15 Nov 2022
Some that I have found: - GameHub (Neat project, but does not support the usage of proton or wine for steam games - PlayNite (Only supports Windows at the moment, Linux support will come some time in the future) - steam-tui (A little too bare-bones for my taste)
