Ask HN: How many websites, apps or notifications do you look at to “catch-up”?
Feeder is an okay replacement for Feedly on Android, and it's opensource.

Show HN: It's Like HN, but for Science
One of the first things I do when I test aggregator sites like this one is to look for the RSS feed. I may have missed something but I did not find one here - could that be added? It would make it much easier to integrate into my normal 'news flow' which is more or less entirely built around RSS feeds presented through Nextcloud News [1]. I can scrape sites which do not provide their own feed but that is tedious and just increases the load on those sites.

Gripes with RSS after one week
Previously I used Nextcloud News and enjoyed it, but recent versions require 64-bit PHP [1], which I didn’t have on the Raspberry Pi. Never did figure out why this requirement was imposed just for the News app.

My slow progression towards and away from NextCloud
NC News was my first RSS aggregator, back when I was doubing whether I might need something like this at all - now I can't imagine not having one

Thoughts about Feedly?
cross-platform and with an app for android would be Nextcloud News. (https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/news) - But obviously you'd be needing a nextcloud first.
-
Ask HN: What are you using for a RSS Reader?
I'm using Nextcloud already and that has an officially supported RSS daemon app[1]. I mainly use it with this really good Android client[2] (that's on F-Droid) that supports connecting to it (and Miniflux it appears, which I noticed a bunch of mentions in this thread of).

Privacy oriented rss feed that I can put my own links and turn them into a rss feed
The best RSS reader will depend on the platform you are using, for example on macOS and iOS there's NetNewsWire, on GNOME there's Feeds, on Windows (albeit it's also available on other platforms) there's Fluent Reader, on Nextcloud there's Nextcloud News, on Android there used to be Flym, but recent Play Store rule changes led to its archival with Handy News Reader being the most active fork.

A Guide to Using RSS to Replace Social Media
Ah, the blessings of the Google-free Android experience get proven once again by this counterexample of Google - or rather those working for Google who are in control these feeds - pushing their agenda onto unsuspecting (...?) victims.
May I suggest removing whatever stock distribution you have and replacing it with e.g. LineageOS, doing away with Google services - use microG [1] et al if you need something which depends on them - and dropping whatever "news aggregator" feed is offered by third parties? Use something like Nextcloud News [2] and add the feeds for a number of publications, both corporate as well as alternative, from all sides of the political spectrum. Compare how events are reported between them and form your own conclusions. Also give up on the hope of non-political culture reporting from corporate media, this seems to be one of the most heavily politicised areas with nearly all publications slanted towards the "left" side of the political spectrum.
