Renderdoc, which open sourced it in 2021 was able to use regular MD5.

Need help: capture Hogwarts Legacy in RenderDoc?
From my research I only found that Baldurk doesn't want to give support for issues related with capturing 3rd party programs (link), not that he doesn't want RenderDoc to be used in that way.
He's pretty clear about it every time it's asked. Tracing copyrighted games is legally questionable, and tools like RenderDoc are often abused by people to do illegal asset ripping/reselling.
