I would be very surprised if such app doesn't come out of the recently announced developer program. Someone could partner with redsolver (https://github.com/redsolver/skyfeed) to give use to all the know-how he gained in the process and come up with decentralized twitter that will be actively developed.

Yes hosting spare hard drive space is one way you could help Sia grow. Just be aware that you will want to keep a 95% uptime and the SiaUI can cut in to your resources a bit. So depending on what kind of computer hardware you have it might be a hassle for you. But it is definitely something I encourage you to look in to. You could optionally get yourself a Raspberry PI with an external hard drive and set it up to be a host by following my guide at http://sia-setup.skunkink.hns.to. But there are also plenty of other ways to help the network grow like joining the Built to Explore hackathon which is open to developers and non-developers. The second phase is open to the general public and even gives you the chance to win up to $3000 in prizes just by using the new applications developed during the hackathon. However the easiest way to support the network is simply by using it. Grab yourself an account at Skyspace, Skyfeed, MARStorage, Filebase (make sure to select Skynet as your hosting service), etc and start uploading data! Everytime you use Skynet to send/receive data, talk to friends, build a website, you are helping the network grow. So get out there and find new ways in which you can use it an encourage all of your friends to do the same! The future is here, welcome to Skynet.

  • Sia Tech Disappointment

I believe they’re working or more focused on the iOS and Android apps now. Here’s their GitHub for skyfeed and known issues they’re working on skyfeed GitHub I mean it’s fairly new tech and not much else like it out there. It’s gonna take time and it’s up to us the users to help them see what needs improvement. Fresh eyes if you will. I don’t think they’re advertising much bc they realize what you’re saying and are trying to make their products more user friendly/easy to use but need our input and opinions.

SkyFeed is currently in beta and development of it started 2 months ago during a hackathon and was released about one month ago. SkyFeed is being developed by me, not the Sia team - that's also the reason it isn't linked on their website. SkyFeed as a social network is unique because it's truly decentralized and as such, features like user search are very non-trivial to implement in a decentralized way without a trusted central index. Performance will get a lot better when Skynet Portals introduce batching of small files and paid accounts, which should happen soon. The roadmap for SkyFeed can be found here: https://github.com/redsolver/skyfeed/projects/1

  • Does anyone have a reply to some of these very valid concerns?
    3 projects | /r/siacoin | 10 Apr 2021
In the end both of these concerns you have in regards to the mass adoption are negligible since the introduction of Skynet. With Skynet the only people that will ever have to be running any Sia software will be just the hosts. Skynet is kind of like a intermediary between the end user and the Sia network. The end user (you) will never need to buy Siacoin or install any software in order to use the Sia network. What happens is you essentially pay for the storage using your normal means of payments through the use of websites and apps like Skyspace, MARStorage, Filebase or Siasky. They in turn handle all the technical details of getting your data on to the Sia network. So once enough developers jump on board and enough websites and apps have been built on Skynet, the average end user might not even know what Skynet is even though they are using it every single day because it is the new internet. All they will know is there is less adds and things seem to work a bit differently.

The sync time is being worked on and will eventually be made to be virtually instant. However unless you are choosing to host or rent storage from the Sia network there is no reason for you to sync. If you are just wanting a wallet to hold your Siacoin in you can use the one at https://wallet.siacentral.com and no syncing is required. However if using the Sia network to store data is all you are wanting to do then you don't even need to buy Siacoin. You can simply use SkySpace, MARStorage, Filebase or Siasky to upload your data for free with no need of buying Siacoin or syncing the blockchain. As for your concerns about coin supply I have copied and pasted my post Siacoin, Skynet and their profitability as an investment for you to read below.

I'm making this a separate reply so you are sure to get it. But make sure you also go sign up an account at https://siasky.net as well. It keeps track of ALL your data that you upload and download to and from Skynet through the Siasky portal.

  • A few questions
    2 projects | /r/siacoin | 2 Apr 2021
Currently the blockchain takes quite a while to download due to the fact that the team has had other priorities to focus on which were more pressing. The fact is with the introduction of Skynet the general public doesn't even need to buy siacoin or even download the SiaUI to store their data on the Sia network. It is really only the hosts who are required to buy Siacoin and download the blockchain. This is not to say that there are no plans to improve it though and 3 starting this quarter there are plans to make more progress on this front with Utreexo. Once implemented it should be able to speed up the sync process to be almost instantaneous. As for whether or not you need to sync to the blockchain that depends on what you are wanting to use Sia for. If you would simply like to store your personal data on the Sia network you can download the SiaUI from sia.tech which will allow you to do so. In addition to allowing you to rend space on the network, SiaUI is also the official wallet for Siacoin. Using the SiaUI will require you to sync to the blockchain but there are alternatives which allow you to use the Sia network without the need to sync. If all you need is a wallet to hold your Siacoin you could take a look at Sia Central wallet which is web based and does not require you to sync. It should be noted though that Sia Central is not an official wallet provided by Sia but is instead built and run by a community member. Now in regards to storing data on the Sia network without syncing you have multiple alternatives to use. You could upload directly to the network by using the offical Skynet portal siasky.net or you could use a Google and Dropbox alternative like Skyspace's to upload and manage your data.
