Also replace cat with bat for color syntax highlighting when it should be there.
Is there a way to do syntax highlighting of the terminal as a whole like in moba xterm.

You'd need something that knows how to interpret the data being sent to the screen. You might be able to use bat to pipe your output and get it syntax-highlighted.

I quite like bat. Works with most languages and has git integration (it shows which lines have changed), and installation is easy.
