  • Getting Pipewire to Work for You [The KISS Guide]
    2 projects | /r/voidlinux | 5 Jun 2023
I did some digging and found this repository with some examples for runit scripts, but they needed a little bit of adjusting; specifically they make use of the deprecated pipewire-media-session. After adjusting them, I symlinked them in to my runsvdir and … still nothing! At this point, I almost decided to just go back to the shell script and let it go, but the next day I was picking at the problem again and found that the approach for per-user services as described in the void docs puts your user services into an environment that is isolated from your user session. You can take a look at the env of a process in htop, and if you look at any of your usual user-processes you'll probably see a long list of environment variables, but the user-level runsv process started by the system-level runit only knows about the variables you export in /etc/sv/runsvdir-your-username/run like HOME and USER. This effectively hamstrings services that need to run like other "normal" user processes.

If you must have sbc_xq, add this ppa and follow the instructions here, I can't verify the ppa but it is recommended to LTS users by other users, this is probably the easiest and only reliable way to get it on Mint.

  • Using PipeWire with Ubuntu 21.10 “Impish Indri”
    1 project | /r/Ubuntu | 17 Dec 2021
Hii.. I am the PPA owner of PipeWire (i.e. ppa:pipewire-debian/pipewire-upstream). The full packaging project is on github (https://github.com/pipewire-debian/pipewire-debian). I did not get it what are you saying ? The official packages are 4 months old and since then pipewire has been improved a lot you know. My aim is to deliver the latest upstream release with improved packaging than what is debian maintainers are maintaining. Of course you can install those package from official repo but you have to compromise latest features, security, bug fixes, improvements, device compability etc.
  • JACK broken after Pop!_OS 21.10 update?
    1 project | /r/linuxaudio | 15 Dec 2021
I'll also say be careful with installing-uninstalling PipeWire as it's easy to lose track of packages, and some of the PipeWire packages aren't compatible with JACK without PipeWire present. (You can see my experience with this and a few related packages on this GitHub issue.)
  • MIDI adapter causes Audio recording glitch
    1 project | /r/linuxaudio | 3 Nov 2021
I'm currently using pipewire on Ubuntu 18.04, but the glitch was also present in the previous pulseaudio (+ JACK) setup, so maybe it's caused by the underlying ALSA.
