FlashList is based on RecyclerListView but has an API similar to FlatList, which makes migration very simple and has many additional features. For example, FlashList provides metrics API, which allows you to measure performance problems and find proper params configuration for your list component. Also, it supports animation with Reanimated and layouts like Masonry.

I read about FlashList, Big-List, RecyclerListView. I'll give it a try to check if any of them improves performance.

Try looking into https://github.com/Flipkart/recyclerlistview -- It has a bit of a learning curve but the performance improvements that you get out of box are well worth it. Try it after the other improvements people in this thread mentioned :D

Why can't you try RecyclerListView, Flipkart is using it in production.

I gave a try to smaller libs like georstat/react-native-image-cache but ran into some stability issues while attempting very simple use cases.

If you’re not caching images already and you’re in bare react-native then use this package for caching: https://github.com/georstat/react-native-image-cache , it’s lighter than FastImage. Disclaimer: I’m the author

Fast image can be a memory hogger in flatlists, you could try https://github.com/georstat/react-native-image-cache witch stores images in file system (i’m one of the authors).

Hi fellow devs, me and my colleagues after releasing react-native-image-cache we also released a simple image gallery with thumbnails preview. The module has 0 external dependencies so it can be used with expo. We're planning on creating a react-native-image-cache package for expo too, stay tuned :) .

I see you’re using 2 modules for image-caching, me and my colleagues have created a file system remote image caching module, in our cases react-native-fast-image was killing the device memory so we got inspiration from other modules and created: https://github.com/georstat/react-native-image-cache . It uses react-native-file-access witch is by far more stable than react-native-fs that you’re using and it supports almost the same stuff.
