Is there a tutorial for setting up React Native from scratch on an existing app?
If you want to know about build variants just go check out the Android documentation on build variants. They're right though. There's kind of a lot going on when setting up a bare react native project. With that said you could do your own research. Check out the comments in the app build.gradle file for Typescript Template and also the project build.gradle file. You'll see there's so much they would have to assume the audience knows to be able to explain that (react native build gradle plugin, react native CLI, Android NDK, C++, JSC aka js compiler, etc).
