Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Building a simple Colour Picker from scratch
Again, the complete code can be found here. This is an implementation with no dependencies beyond React, but you can always use your favourite UI libraries to replace the views. I would also like to credit react-color-palette and this css-tricks article as I used them as reference for the colour map implementation and colour conversions methods.

Smooth Shadows for Images using their Dominant Color
You can use Color Thief to process your images and get back information like the dominant color in any JS framework. For React there's also color-thief-react (although I haven't tried that personally). The library polished will also work in any JS framework.
