React Notes app with firebase authentication and storage
2 projects | dev.to | 17 Nov 2022
After installing firebase, we have little configurations to create on the website. To start, firebase requires that we create a project on the website, I will call this react-todoapp, after registering the app, you are immediately provided with a config file, this is the basis file for building our firebase auth, in the src folder, I will be creating a services folder and firebase.js file where I will copy the configuration file, this config file can also be added directly to your app.js, it all depends on preference. I will also import some packages to this file and initialize my auth before exporting it.

Getting Started with Azure Static Web Apps
2 projects | dev.to | 14 Nov 2022
Are there any services out there that can help simplify the process of deploying a static web app and its associated APIs? You always do it yourself using various cloud provider services but you’d have to setup storage, web hosting, APIs, manage build and deployments, SSL certs, custom domains, handle security, and much more. You could also use services like Netlify (https://netlify.com), Firebase (https://firebase.google.com), and many others as well.

Using OSS to secure your web-app / app / ...

To solve this issue often providers like Firebase, Auth0, ... step in an provide user-management and permission-management. These solutions work fine but get costly very quickly. But the main 'not-selling point' for me is that they are not opensource and cannot be hosted by myself. I like being able to have control over things I invest my time in.

Launch HN: Medplum (YC S22) – Open-Source Firebase for Healthcare
5 projects | news.ycombinator.com | 8 Nov 2022
Sure! Firebase (https://firebase.google.com/) is what’s known as a Backend-as-a-Service platform. Offers a bunch of server-side services (including database storage, authentication, serverless edge functions, and image/media storage, etc.) hosted in the cloud and accessible via API. That way, application developers can focus on the user-facing experience, and use a standard platform for their backend.
Medplum expands on this concept by adding tools specific to digital health, such as a FHIR data schema for interoperability, EHR integration, and SMART App launching for embedding applications inside legacy EHRs

That's what I actually admire about Supabase .
The folks created an almost full fledged Firebase replacement by clipping pieces together (similar to the article, replacing APISIX with Kong) and it allows them to iterate super fast.
Pragmatic, and nice if you're on the receiving end of it .
Add Umami Analytics to a Web Application
4 projects | dev.to | 19 Nov 2022
We need to have a database to store user and analytics details. Umami supports SQL and PostgreSQL for databases. We are not going to use any local database, we are going to use PostgreSQL from the supabase. It provides an all-in-one solution to the backend having support for Database, Authentication, instant APIs, Edge Functions, Realtime subscriptions, and Storage.
Can you host a React site with a database in AWS?
3 projects | reddit.com/r/reactjs | 16 Nov 2022
Take a peak at Supabase (https://supabase.com/) as a possible backend service. It's PostgreSQL with some nice notification events on various DB operations. Gives a number of other benefits too. This could be configured to run on AWS as well, using the open source options.

Back end as a Service (BaaS) are products that let you manage various aspects of you applications such as hosting, auth, database, uploads, cloud functions in a very "serverless" way. The most popular one is probably firebase, netlify is vastly growing. Appwrite and Superbase are really cool opensource alternatives.
