Modules for 3d simulations (such as robotic arms)?
I tried to use PyMadCAD but once I have created the robotic arm I have no way to control it automatically.

PrusaSlicer 2.5 beta1 is out and it can import STEP files directly!🧡 So you can skip exporting and sharing STLs completely when it comes to mechanical parts.
They integrated OCCT, so they do now have code to read STEP as part of the code base. Yes, I am aware it is tessellated right now (which is the obvious first step to make it work), but that can be changed in future. Point is: they now have at least half of the necessary code available.

The only thing coming to mind is https://dev.opencascade.org/ - it was the original kernel of the ipad app shapr3d.

What does Freecad need?
Also, FreeCAD is built on the OCCT library and it inherits many of its limitations from that. Ideally, a lot of issues should be fixed in the library and FreeCAD would automatically be improved. Unfortunately, and I could be wrong, but I don't think FreeCAD developers have much influence on what happens at OCCT, apart from filing bug reports and such.
