He probably didn't even bother to try Proton
Just played games on Linux for the first time. It's way easier than I originally thought since Proton is integrated into Steam client. Can even run non-Steam games through Steam client but had to use protontricks to add dependencies like Visual C++ redistributables.

Installing Osaka Simulator on Linux (with audio)
We'll be needing Protontricks to install those packages into our Proton session of our game (each steam game has their own one). You can install it here https://github.com/Matoking/protontricks.

Modding Question
ALSO if a mod has some kind of external dependency, like if it specifically mentions needing VisualC or .NET Runtime, Protontricks will be a lifesaver for installing these into Proton prefixes. Might not need it often, but could come in handy to know anyways.

[Mint 21.1 "vera"] Attempting to install Mod Organizer 2 (for Skyrim SE), fails with "Invalid file magic number"
The version of steam.py on Github is, annoyingly, different than the one I have.

Barkley Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden
Now, what I was trying before just setting the version was to use protontricks, you can install it in the software repository in desktop mode. Then follow the flatpack install instructions

Flawless Widescreen Developer Wants to Help Us Linux Users
Maybe it would be better if we had compatibility with FW in Linux without the use of third-party tools? Those tools are ProtonPreloader, Protontricks, and SteamTinkerLauncher. If so, how can we help the Flawless Widescreen Developer with this?

My goal for this year is finally get rid of windows and read only on GNU/Linux
For Steam games / Proton, protontricks is your friend. Do not use WINE tools / winetricks from a "foreign" WINE install on Proton prefixes.

Super low frame rates playing portal
Proton is a fork of Wine, you won't need to use Wine itself. Looks like protontricks can also setup wine-nine-standalone for you.

Recommended Controllers?
Been using Xbox One Elite controllers (both gen 1 and 2) for a couple years now without issue and I even use the proprietary Xbox wireless USB dongle. If you use this "xone" driver then it just works as it does in Windows. It's an evolution of the older "xow" driver where you'd just have to run a command to invoke the pairing process, if anyone was familiar with that driver.

Xbox wireless controller adapter on Linux
I own 2 Xbox controllers, and I'm wondering if the wireless adapter works on Linux natively, or if I need to install other drivers, like xpadneo or XoW?

Microsoft Xbox Adaptive Controller support is coming to Linux
Have you tried xow or xone? xow made the official XBone wireless dongle plug-n-play for me. I've been using it since 2018 or so.

Steam Deck Client Update and SteamOS 3.3
can you not use the xbox wireless adapter? There is https://github.com/medusalix/xow which I have used on linux and it works perfectly fine. (I have no idea how and if it can be installed on the steamdeck though because I don’t own one). It requires a systemd service though, which might not be so trivial to set up on the steam deck.
- Playing docked with wireless controllers isn't a great experience right now
