profanity VS react-native-mmkv

One option, maybe a little clunky - check out profanity (https://profanity-im.github.io/), a terminal based xmpp client. It has a python api. You can write a crude plugin to connect to [email protected] (or whatever user you figure out). Then just listen for incoming messages on a loop. When something is received, run it through a few cases to match the message with the intended event (or discard or whatever). Then probably trigger some external shell script to do the data retrieval, returning to the plugin to send. Profanity runs on pretty much anything.

Or, there is profanity (https://profanity-im.github.io/) and there is a python library that makes things go quickly. I had a thought to have a plugin autoconnect the "bot" user to the server, start an omemo session with a user (or users), and listen on a local socket or something for messages to send over the omemo session. I had issues with the omemo enrollment/key exchange sticking though, which made it unreliable.

Why do you need to access the db from the file system? Can you just use something like https://github.com/mrousavy/react-native-mmkv ?

By using libraries like Reanimated, React Native MMKV, and React Native Skia, you leverage the native thread. However, I know there are developers building amazing things who think outside the box. I'm always thrilled when I read engineering blogs from companies like Netflix, Meta, and Shopify. They create solutions beyond the limits.

mmkv is not really designed to be used for “heavy” writes, or often changing values. But more as e.g. NSUserDefaults. The storage keeps growing over time which may cause memory issues if used wrongly. Here’s a related github issue: https://github.com/mrousavy/react-native-mmkv/issues/440

if you need to store something small and simple use whatever. if is complex and speed is important use something performant. realmDB, https://github.com/mrousavy/react-native-mmkv and others are good fit for the job.
