Native apps planned?
Interesting! There is also photoprism-mobile, but both project doesn't seem to be in active development.
The maintainers are only taking responsibility for the PWA, but there is a mobile app out there which depends on the backend code waiting for review in https://github.com/photoprism/photoprism/pull/995 . You can use the temporarily forked version of photoprism with the necessary backend API changes and use the mobile app just fine.

What app do you wish existed?
i've been playing with photoprism (seems to meet all your requirements) in docker for a while. as i've seen your comment i searched for a mobile app, apparently there is one: https://github.com/thielepaul/photoprism-mobile i'll probably try it at some point.

Comparison of self-hosted photo apps
You may want to clarify what having an app means. There is a native app for photoprism, for both Android and iOS. It's just not "official". The table implies there's none at all.

Dumping nextcloud for photos and just going with Photoprism?
If you want to view photoprism in mobile, the browser does an okay job, but if you want a dedicated app for it, the mobile app curently seems to be incompatible with the latest version of photoprism.

Backing up photos back my phone: Nextcloud or Seafile?
There is an (official app in development)[https://github.com/photoprism/photoprism-mobile], but honestly the web app through a mobile browser works a lot better

Is there an app as good as Synology Photos
Photoprism does indeed have features that are added under a subscription. All of the functionality is the same, subscribing just adds customization to your interface, and it allows unlimited reverse geocoding (otherwise, it is rate-limited, according to the documentation). There is a limit to the maximum resolution as well. No reason why you can't use the product for free, however.

photo features in Hub3?
I started using Photoprism instead a couple years ago and have been quite happy with it so far. I'd recommend looking into that project. Their roadmap is here. Memories like you asked is in there, but I doubt it's coming anytime soon as it seems they have other priorities and a very small team.

Lychee – Self-hosted photo-management done right
* They have the community version/premium model. Differentiators of premium (from https://photoprism.app/features):
- Photo + contacts synchronization?

NAS for family photos
You could put something like Minio (https://min.io/) for syncing via S3 and Photoprism (https://photoprism.app/features) for sharing / tagging on the VPS. Look into Docker to ease the pain of hosting / configuring services on a server. The downside is that you still have to manage the VPS, plus pay for the hosting and the domain name. The upshot is that this adheres to "freedom" and keeps your home network secure.
