Today I present Passbolt, the free, self hosted, open source password manager for teams! Most free password managers like Bitwarden are built for individuals, instead of teams, but not Passbolt! Now you can securely share passwords and other encrypted data with friends, family or co-workers thanks to granular permissions, built in auditing and access logging. Just because it’s free doesn’t mean it isn’t full featured tho! Passbolt has all the features that paid solutions do like secure password sharing, email notifications, MFA (Yubikey) support and of course browser plugins for autofilling usernames and passwords. The free community version provides 90% of the functionality, but things like LDAP provisioning and SSO with Azure are reserved for the paid, hosted plans. Overall this is an excellent solution for bootstrapped startups, small businesses or even families that have to manage passwords across several users.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Padloc [1] yet. It's end-to-end encrypted, open source, easy to self host, and with a really UI + UX. I got all my family to use it and used it for a over a year, before eventually contributing actively to it.

Sorry, I install from the APK directly, available in the GitHub repo. I see someone already created an issue for it at https://github.com/padloc/padloc/issues/725 so thanks for bringing it up!

If you're a Bitwarden user and this doesn't worry you, you haven't been paying attention to the history of almost every company that has accepted VC funds.

It doesn't matter how well intentioned the founders are - once you accept that kind of money, it's not your product anymore. You are now in the business of making money, nothing else, and those skewed incentives will start bleeding into their product and business practices sooner or later.

As a company, Bitwarden has been a huge role model for me, and I hope they'll be the exception to the rule. But 100M is a lot of money, and I simply can't imagine it having a net-positive effect on the company and product. But we'll see...

I just looked at your CI. Very very few automated tests. It isn't a deal breaker (Bitwarden honestly isn't much better), but it doesn't instill much confidence in your application either.

Padloc Pros: Some pre-defined templates Cons: No custom templates No category grouping 50 password max for free account, otherwise subscription model

I've checked padloc.app, Bitwarden, enpass and 1password. And I think 1Password will be my choice.
