Pandoc
You can inline LaTeX chapter/section break commands even when processing Markdown, and in several ways (dropping \newpage directly in the content before chapters, using header templates, as YAML metadata in the Markdown file, even on the command line).
Google has many examples; one's here using a header file: https://medium.com/@sydasif78/book-creation-with-pandoc-and-...
More are here, including an example using the header-includes YAML metadata param: https://github.com/Wandmalfarbe/pandoc-latex-template/issues...

Tell HN: Modern Is Not Better
Really? Should work with any OpenType font. Are you generating in a language that doesn't use roman-ish alphabet? You're not wrong that working with TeX can involve a lot of yak shaving in general. Sometimes finding the right template can solve a lot of problems. I use Eisvogel. https://github.com/Wandmalfarbe/pandoc-latex-template

PM wants something that "looks better than a Word doc"
If you really want to go that route, take a look at pandoc and ping me if you have questions. Pandoc in combination with the Eisvogel LaTeX template can be a quick way to get a really good-looking doc.

Good templates for college assignments?
Nice! But is there a reason why you linked that fork? This looks like the original (and more recently updated): https://github.com/Wandmalfarbe/pandoc-latex-template

(Pandoc) How to Make Tables More Organized?
It looks like the template has some variables you can pass?

Merry Christmas! I am giving away my ebook Command Line: A Modern Introduction for free. Grab your copy as a gift :)
Another option is pandoc. There are templates like this one if you don't want to customize yourself.

Ask HN: How did you author and typeset your technical book?
I've self-published several ebooks using pandoc [0]. I convert GitHub style markdown to pdf/epub with some customization of my own.
I'd probably try templates [1] already available if I needed printable version.

Is there an online markdown editor that syncs and is cross platform?
I use Git to push and pull changes to free GitHub repositories. You can do this from multiple machines, as well as inviting multiple collaborators. I do all of this inside Vim which I also use to write in Markdown and LaTeX to keep things streamlined, but you could use LazyGit in the terminal plus whatever program you are writing Markdown in, hopping between the two. I provide details for how this goes here. You can find my config here and details using Pandoc to convert between file formats here.

Help me pick a Markdown writing app?
No way! Who knows where that project will go, and you're stuck with whatever they give you. It's all about future proof free and open source software. Plus it's better anyways to develop your own workflow, with only the features that you want inside of [Vim]{https://github.com/benbrastmckie/.config}, and a whole ecosystem of plugins to choose from. Not to mention the power of modal editing, and so much more.

Templates + Scripts for University Students
As for templates, you can find what I make use of in my config here. I've adapted them from various other people. Not sure how useful these will be to you. The truth is, there are loads of templates out there just a google search away. Although it could be nice to dump them all in a single location with standard formatting, etc., in practice, it's not too difficult to poke around a bit until one finds a template that works for them, adapting it from there. But feel free to make use of what I've assembled however you like.
This is an excellent plan. I just finished my doctorate, and have been using Vim + LaTeX + Markdown + Pandoc + Git + etc. = absolutely no going back. Sorry, that wasn't a sentence, but you get the point. I've created a bunch of resources on my GitHub repo with links to tutorial videos. I hope that this helps!

betterbib
But maybe I've misunderstood the primary use case you envisioned for improving .bib files in one's workflow. For instance, I have included in my NeoVim config a key-binding which generates a local .bib file from my central .bib file by scraping all citations which occur in the present paper. I run this before submitting a paper for publication along with all necessary files to get the pdf to generate accurately. One way I could include BetterBib in the workflow would be as a check on the local .bib file since it is not going to be replaced by Zotero, correcting any errors in the local .bib file which have been inherited from the central .bib file. I'd be curious to hear what you think, and how you make use of this tool in your workflow. Thanks again!

Good guides on vim
I've put together a bunch of resources geared for academics to learn Vim on my GitHub repo and YouTube channel. There you can find all of my dot files together with installation instructions for how to reproduce my configuration on your machine and customise the different parts for yourself. If you go to the Cheatsheet.md, I've also linked YouTube videos which walk through all the different parts to make the process of customising Vim as straightforward as possible. Hope that this helps!

Latex confusion with Pandoc and Templates
Hey in case this helps, here is how I'm using Pandoc. In case you want to reproduce the setup I have put together, you can find installation instructions on my GitHub repo. I also made a video about using templates for LaTeX (and Markdown) which might be of interest. I highly recommend searching for a CV template online which is written in LaTeX that you can edit rather than asking Pandoc to come up with something for you. Best of luck!
