Apple's new 80% battery limit feature should not be limited to the iPhone 15
That's true. I evaluated it, but it wasn't of use to me as I keep my Macbook plugged in with the lid closed.
I eventually tried this instead :
https://github.com/DevNulPavel/osx_battery_charge_limit
I use it to keep my battery level indicator pegged at 70%. Often doesn't persist after a system update, but it's just a quick terminal command to reapply the setting.
I use my Macbook in clamshell mode, and I use sleep mode when I'm not using it - receiving power from a Thunderbolt dock. It's handy to pick up exactly where I left off on resume. Plus, I use two LG screens where one of the two doesn't switch on after a cold boot, and it's annoying to unplug and replug to activate it. Sleep mode gets around that.

Prolonging Battery Tips for Student
I'm not sure if it fully works with the new M1 machines, but I use this.

Add support for Steelseries Nova 7
I guessing it needs to be put into a state todo this? The program https://github.com/Sapd/HeadsetControl can query the state of the Game/Chat mix dial. I pretty much just use this dial for Discord, so at minimum I want to have it so using the Game/Chat mix dial changes the volume of the Discord application. Ideal would be having a virtual sound that gets mixed back into the sound output.

Switching completely from Windows to Linux
For the arctis, you can likely use https://github.com/Sapd/HeadsetControl I'm using it with the nova 7 and it has 4 built in equalizers which do the job for me. You miss out on built in chatmix like sonar has but you can implement it pretty easily using pulseaudio virtual audio devices and interfacing with headset control to get the chat mix level from the headset. If you want to send me a dm once you get your system set up I can send you over a private repo I have for it!

Ask HN: What lesser-known accessories do you use with your computer?
Same here. My Logitech gaming headset works great in Linux. I do have to use some third party thing to adjust the goofy LED colors and side channel volume, though.

New PC Build, Recommend changing any hardware for Linux comparability
For the headset, this is a bit more difficult, if and only if, you are looking for a full compatibility, meaning all the functionality you would have in Windows. I would recommend looking at HeadSetControl repository if you need a full control of your headset under Linux, else all basic functionality should be available on most of the Headset market (please verify using google).

Fellow headset owners and iCUE(or similar software)-haters - I might have something for you:
I've created a GUI wrapper for Sapds HeadsetControl, a tool to change the settings of your headset without having to install the manufacturers bloatware.
-
Using corsair products with Arch
HeadsetControl is probably what you want for the headphones although I don't use it myself. It is available on AUR as well as either headsetcontrol or headsetcontrol-git.
- Is there a GUI version of these packages or some alternative

Handy little tool to show your battery percentage
I am using HeadsetControl for that. But this seems like a great tool for windows users.

[LTT] This is NOT going Well… Linux Gaming Challenge Pt.2
I was originally trying to work off of this guy's 'sapd' program he wrote for turning on sidetone for a bunch of headphones. It uses hidApi - but writing drivers is pretty new stuff for me. I started to chicken out when attempting to find a way to test it

Looking for recommendations for wireless gaming headset
I have the Steelseries Artics 7 (2019 version) and it works great if you have the lastest version of PusleAudio or PipeWire with the correct profile. You can use EasyEffects for equalizer and HeadsetControl to change settings. Also check HeadsetControl GitHub page for more headsets that have been tested and work well on Linux.
What are some alternatives?
easyeffects - Limiter, compressor, convolver, equalizer and auto volume and many other plugins for PipeWire applications
AlDente-Charge-Limiter - macOS menubar tool to set Charge Limits and prolong battery lifespan
logitech-g-hub-settings-extractor - This is a small python tool to extract the json file stored inside the "settings.db" file of the Logitech G Hub app. This allows you to update the json and then replace the file blob inside the db with the new json.
headset-charge-indicator - A simple app-indicator for GNOME desktops to display the battery charge of some wireless headsets which also allows to control some functions like LEDs, sidetone and others.
goxlr-on-linux - Documentation and scripts to make the GoXLR and GoXLR Mini useful on Linux.
hidapi - A Simple cross-platform library for communicating with HID devices
cue-sdk - Corsair iCUE SDK
ddcctl - DDC monitor controls (brightness) for Mac OSX command line
AirPods Battery Monitor For MacOS - Your AirPods Battery levels at your status bar | MacOS | Widget
acer-wmi-battery - A linux kernel driver for the Acer WMI battery health control interface
Clight - A C daemon that turns your webcam into a light sensor. It will adjust screen backlight based on ambient brightness.
linux - Linux kernel source tree
