I'm a science student and amateur web dev. Is this the right tool?
Depending on how you log data and take notes you might find the orgparse Python library or the orga JS library useful.
-
Is there any app or site with org-mode syntax live-preview?
That is perfect, all org-syntax features we need are done properly. I can manage to use the orgapp code in some simple tool.
-
Is orgmode really that much better than an equivalent workflow using vim + other tools?
org syntax isn't as confined to the emacs world as it used to be. Check out, e.g., https://github.com/orgapp/orgajs, which parses org files into an 'abstract syntax tree', which can then be transformed/picked for info/indexed, etc. etc. by any number of tools. Pandoc's support is also improving as far as I'm aware.

Tree-sitter grammar for org-mode
Thanks @preek. I mentioned you guys in [3] above. BTW I'm actually using this parser: https://github.com/orgapp/orgajs for my product (https://braintool.org), so there are other choices. I guess the key thing is a single well defined grammar.
Is GDrive syncing working in Organice these days? I've wanted to demonstrate interop with BrainTool (which syncs to GDrive files) but last I checked there was some bug.

Org export to HTML: can I export *only* the body?
Overall Orga's great and I really don't mean to diminish the author's work in any way, but I have had a couple issues. A number of them have been fixed, which is great, but I got stuck on this one about line breaks when using auto-fill mode. I think it's fixed in a newer version of Orga, but upgrading broke my build and I've spent enough hours trying to fix it that I'm looking for options.

Uniorg — I wrote an org-mode parser for js
Excited to see this, as I've tried to write my own Orgmode parser before. Did you know about Orgajs? It also supports the Unified ecosystem.
MDX is non-trivial. But if all you need is gatsby with org, a simpler plugin similar to gatsby-transformer-remark is doable. gatsby-transformer-orga would be a good inspiration here.

My productivity app is a never-ending .txt file
Since at least 2012 I've also been using a text file format from http://todotxt.org/ and more recently I wrote a program that takes a crontab-like list to pre-generate entries on a daily, by-day-name (every Sunday for example), and I also pull in a list of holidays from gov.uk, so they are also populated.

Ask HN: Tell us about your project that's not done yet but you want feedback on
It's a web app implementing the todo.txt format (see http://todotxt.org/). It's an exercise to learn frontend currently, I doubt I could successfully monetize it. Would appreciate any feedback!
-
Looking for a note taking app with inline tags.
That format is really similar to todo.txt format, worth taking a look at http://todotxt.org/ (which in turn has application links).
-
Looking for PC and mobile "to do list" software
The ToDo.Txt format makes it easy to use across devices/software, but this is really limited to ToDos.
-
how do you manage your tasks / todos between Linux and Android?
todo.txt on linux (format definition, tool -- available in most package repos also I think, though the name is not always the same!)
-
Best to do app for a college student
What also could work for you is http://todotxt.org/, its basically a text file or two if you want to keep track of some tasks, it already comes with two types of labeling but also key value tags, which you can use to filter based on your different desired levels.

Anyone know a good FOSS GUI todo app?
Yes, I'm aware. Sounds like you aren't familiar with todo.txt? todo.txt

How would you try to get an overview of you'r entire project to make sure that everything is going into the right direction? Optimize on a system level instead of detail level.
Obsidian was also great, and very minimalist at its base. You just make connections between notes and topics, and go from there. It uses markdown, it's fully customizable and extendable, with the simplicity of something like todo.txt (e.g. editing notes outside of the app is completely fine).

A plain-text file format for todos and check lists
For a standalone CLI, I still prefer https://github.com/todotxt/todo.txt-cli - probably because there are Android and iOS clients for it, and it's based around a bash script.
For vim, I just use vim-wiki, which is a superset of this functionality.
Of course, looking through this thread, there's lots of different options. Which is cool.
