Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Unity will quietly waive fees if developers switch to its ad monetisation
I wish they'd go the way of Epic and make an actual game with their engine. They've tried a few times and given up each time. It's pretty embarrassing when they've done things like released a fully featured multiplayer FPS demo that doesn't actually work out of the box and has a custom editor tool manager, custom scene loader, and custom networking layer that were never merged into mainline unity. Meanwhile they still have no official stable networking module. The old functional one was sunset and the new ones are still in beta.

> This project is based on Unity 2018.3
> NOTE: Due to a bug in Unity 2018.3, you have to take the following step right after the initial import: 1 Search for Firstperson_Projection in the Project search field. Select the 4 shaders, right click and reimport them. 2 If you have script compile errors related to entities, you need to remove and re-install the entities package.
> One day soon we will remove this note and there will be cake.
> Once the editor is ready, open the Project Tools Window by navigating to FPS Sample > Windows > Project tools.
> Keep this window docked as you will use it a lot. From here you can open the levels, build assetbundles and build standalone players.

methods for saving variables
I didn't use any particular tutorial for my save system but Unity actually developed a community based Open Project a year or so ago. Their save system is probably a good reference to get something started. They have a few other systems implemented in that project as well that you might find useful, although personally I didn't love how much they used scriptableobjects for their event system.

Should I switch my game dev project to Godot from Unity?
Unity themselves have open source games.

Unreal vs. Unity Opinion
Dogfooding with Animation, Game Development, VR/AR. You name it, they have an open source project to start from: https://github.com/UnityTechnologies/open-project-1
New features include source access through Github, have QA testing statuses (Preview vs Verified), and have automated upgrade paths. I recently went from Unity 2019->2022 and it was seamless. Source code access is ubiquitous too.
This is all very different from the Unity 4 days where a patch version would break your project!
The downsides are that the Editor is mostly single-threaded, so in large multi-year projects, iteration time and navigation can be difficult. Unity have a “task-force” that are working to resolve these issues, but their communication is really lacking.
Unreal devs by comparison are much easier to get ahold of and have more open roadmaps. I’m hoping that Unity moves in this direction, but they’ve been burnt by this before: promising features in timelines that weren’t feasible (i.e nested prefabs)

Do you know a place to find game dev projects you can join on your free time, even if you have small and irregular free time ?
Found this Unity Open Projects

Where can I find open source Unity projects?
Unity Open Project is created for this purpose. You can see tutorial videos for this project in Unity YouTube channel. You can learn a lot from this project.
-
How do you manage your UI flow?
And you can see Unity Technologies themselves are using it in their example projects: https://github.com/UnityTechnologies/open-project-1/tree/c0577b4b5a4fe8e4eaa54423a25708119b6a6204/UOP1_Project/Assets/Scripts/Events

Just added Linux support to my game! Should I make it open source?
Yes, but you can't include Unity source code so people would have to download the Unity engine to build and play the game from source. They support some open source projects themselves: https://unity.com/open-projects

Unreal vs. Unity Opinion
Godot works fine for VR, particularly if you are developing the Quest. I am making a VR game in Godot. Check out:

I made an Amazon employee VR game for Secret Santa!
I can't compare to Unity because I never used it. I would say that it's not too hard in Godot, especially if you use this addon to get started. The main difficulty is doing 3D in Godot really, because there are still some pain points, but it's going in the right direction.
I used the AMAZING https://github.com/NeoSpark314/godot_oculus_quest_toolkit, essential to make any VR game!

Any good hand animating/button mapping tutorial for Vr? (Quest 2)
I have no experience with this, but you can checkout the toolkit made for the oculus quest.
