Tinygrad: Hacked 4090 driver to enable P2P
I also love that it can be done with just a few code line changes:

AMD ROCm Going Open-Source: Will Include Software and Hardware Documentation
> I do love AMD because its drivers are open source as opposed to nVidia.
AMD's drivers are not really more open that Nvidia's. Similar to Nvidia's Open GPU Kernel Module's[0], AMD's opensource drivers are mostly a shim that wrap firmware blobs[1] in which the functionality you really care about is contained.

Red Hat to Author New Linux Driver for Nvidia GPUs in Rust
My understanding is that nowadays most of the heavy lifting is done by magic going on in the firmware, so the actual driver is relatively simple and is open source: https://github.com/NVIDIA/open-gpu-kernel-modules

Linux 6.6 to Protect Against Illicit Behavior of Nvidia Proprietary Driver
I thought the nvidia kernel driver is open sourced? https://github.com/NVIDIA/open-gpu-kernel-modules
It says it's dual licensed MIT/GPL2
That's only for a small subset of their more recent GPUs, as you can see here: https://github.com/NVIDIA/open-gpu-kernel-modules#compatible...
> They could open-source their drivers and use the GPL symbols, of course, but unlike AMD or Intel I doubt they're going to do that.
They already have, but their open modules only work on newer cards. https://github.com/nvidia/open-gpu-kernel-modules.

NVIDIA Driver 535.54.03 out in the wild by RPMFusion
It's for monitors like the G9 odyssey that have extreme resolution and hz combo. Display stream compression wasn't there yet for them

Should I switch to hyprland?
its not stable with that latest diver 535, not only hyprland all the other WMs and DEs got screen flickering, you can see github issue for more about the problem, so you can downgrade to nvidia driver version 530 and it will be ok.

Variety & TWMs
Seems like other people using variety have had the same issue of \TypeError: gobject `variety+Util+VarietyMetadata' doesn't support property `path'``, reported here and here. Might still caused by using it with nix, idk, I'm no expert in how exactly nix handles python

Hey! I made a small python script to periodically change the desktop background on Ubuntu 20.04LTS
This is why I found variety which does the exact same thing though it also has some config options and the option to get different images from online sources.

Wallpaper engine alternative on Linux Mint
I really like Variety: https://peterlevi.com/variety/ (I don't think you can grab animated wallpaper, but maybe you can). I actually use it to grab images from r/SkyPorn, r/EarthPorn, r/waterporn, r/DessertPorn & r/EarthPorn

Last time it took me 30 minutes
I use XFCE and Variety automatically pulls desktop backgrounds from /r/WidescreenWallpaper and switches through them (highly recommend editing the Variety config to exclude NSFW images from Reddit... for obvious reasons).
Pfff... Or you can just use Variety and eliminate the need to even download new wallpapers altogether. 🙄
