AMD's drivers are not really more open that Nvidia's. Similar to Nvidia's Open GPU Kernel Module's[0], AMD's opensource drivers are mostly a shim that wrap firmware blobs[1] in which the functionality you really care about is contained.

My understanding is that nowadays most of the heavy lifting is done by magic going on in the firmware, so the actual driver is relatively simple and is open source: https://github.com/NVIDIA/open-gpu-kernel-modules

It's for monitors like the G9 odyssey that have extreme resolution and hz combo. Display stream compression wasn't there yet for them

its not stable with that latest diver 535, not only hyprland all the other WMs and DEs got screen flickering, you can see github issue for more about the problem, so you can downgrade to nvidia driver version 530 and it will be ok.

I can't speak for Chrome nor VMWare, but Firefox and OBS have received "Wayland native" screen capturing functionality, through XDG portals and Pipewire, as far as I'm aware.

As a side-note, I've recently discovered a really cool project[0] that enables incredibly fast screen capture for OpenGL and Vulkan applications, mostly tailored to games. Tried it with a bunch of stuff and it works much better than both X's and Pipewire's screen grabbing. I can actually capture videos at my monitor's native refresh rate (144Hz).

I think you mean obs-vkcapture-git. It lets you capture a window through Vulkan. Here is also its github repo for more informations.

I use the obs-vkcapture plugin which is essentially the Game Capture option available on Windows ported over to Linux. It is prepatched into GloriousEggroll's Nobara distro and also available distro-wide on Flatpak. It is a much more efficient capture method than Window Capture and makes it to where I don't have to alt-tab to record every single game, it captures any fullscreen app.

The -git package clones the github repo from the latest commit so it literally can't be outdated. The commenter just said they make a package that will compile the latest official release rather than the most recent commit.

There are no way to solve this unless the feature is implemented. You can try using other method to capture windows like [obs-vkcapture](https://github.com/nowrep/obs-vkcapture)

Since you have NVidia you can also check out using NVfbc to improve performance. Also not sure how it works with NVFBc, but you can also look at vkcapture.
