Sorry this doesn't answer the question you asked, but why not use the old reddit redirect extension?

Has been tested with other extensions disabled, but for context, I use Old Reddit Redirect and RES
- Now that Reddit are killing 3rd party apps on July 1st what are great alternatives to Reddit?

Stop Using Social Media Apps. The Web Version Is Often Better
On my phone I mostly use rif, because it is actually a better experience (contrary to the headline here). But I also have an extension in Firefox that automatically redirects all reddit links to the old design. That way it doesn't matter if I'm logged in or not, or whether I have "desktop view" on.
