Nginx Proxy Manager VS nginx-proxy

I discovered these 3 amazing projects recently:

Cryptpad, essentially google docs/sheets/forms e2e encrypted. It does include collaboration. https://github.com/cryptpad/cryptpad

Nginxproxymanager manages certificates and proxies to self hosted stuff through nginx https://github.com/NginxProxyManager/nginx-proxy-manager

Nginx Proxy Manager

Take a look at NginxProxyManager. This would give you the opportunity to put everything in the form of service1.domain.com , service2.domain.com ,etc.

Prime example: Nginx Proxy Manager is often recommended in the sub. The latest minor release came with breaking changes (so already ignoring semver). I started looking into how to make add dynamic IPs to NPM access lists. I came across a couple of GitHub issues (1, 2) on the topic. It looks like people have solved the problem, but not in a complete way without modifying the NPM docker image. I did not want to do that, so decided looking into writing a separate script.

Here is the (NPM) GitHub issue where the "fork of a fork" image came into existence (lepresidente/nginx-proxy-manager). It has some interesting discussions about the challenges of having NPM and CrowdSec coexist and cooperate.

Agree with this, myQ is such a dumpster fire. It needs to have an the ability to be managed over the local network instead of requiring the garage door and app connect to their server.

My very first experience with myQ was figuring out that their IP blocklist provider, brightcloud, blocks anything with the word "proxy" - including the default "it works" page for Nginx Proxy Manager [1]. And they have no way of overriding this to actually provide service if someone turns out to be a legitimate customer.

Edit: If you're using Nginx Proxy Manager there seems to be open PR for support for proxy protocol https://github.com/NginxProxyManager/nginx-proxy-manager/pull/1882 however in the comments there's a name of repository with this PR merged.

I have an express API that runs on EC2 and I am using nginx-proxy

If Traefik is not your thing Im happily using https://github.com/nginx-proxy/nginx-proxy and sslip.io for local docker compose development.

And then even plain nginx to proxy to non docker services...

(And ipv6 for really short urls. E.g. `example.com.--1.sslip.io` etc)

I wanted to share with you an exciting new tool that simplifies the process of interacting with the NGINX Proxy Manager API. It's a TypeScript tool that generates API requests based on environment variables within a Docker container. This tool is heavy influenced by the https://github.com/nginx-proxy/nginx-proxy but it works with npm.

I use an automatically configuring reverse proxy - there's several to choose from, but the nginx-docker image is really nice, and comes with another image to do automatic SSL with certbot (if you wanted to host things externally).

Docker runs on the 3B+ so you could use this [Github] or the one I have deployed here [NGINX Proxy Manager site] amongst others.

docker compose + wildcard dns + reverse proxy that covers all widecard subdomains + https://github.com/nginx-proxy/nginx-proxy (not to be confused with nginx itself) then setup a container for each app and set a subdomain for it, you can add ssl if you have a public domain or use self signed certs (but you need to distribute it to all machines and devices)

We use the nginx-proxy docker image. Auto-configuring reverse proxy with support for certbot. Never been easier - just put your domain and certbot details in your container env, and it does the rest.

I just use the nginx-proxy image, makes it all super easy, auto-configuring, and all domain/cert information is stored against the project rather than the proxy.
