If you can’t find time to getting Pi-hole going, check out NextDNS, which is only $1.99 a month and very configurable (if you want. It also has sensible defaults.)
Anyone setup NextDNS
1 project | reddit.com/r/OPNsenseFirewall | 26 Nov 2021
CLI installer: Unable to locate package nextdns
On which platform are you trying to install the NextDNS CLI? Is it listed here: https://github.com/nextdns/nextdns/wiki ?
So it seems to be a bug, it has just been reported on GitHub: https://github.com/nextdns/nextdns/issues/615
Sorry, I’m not familiar with Raspbian so I can’t help you with that. Have you tried the manual approach as outlined here: https://github.com/nextdns/nextdns/wiki/Debian-Based-Distribution Otherwise visit the NextDNS community, search for your issue and if you can’t find it, open a new issue: https://help.nextdns.io/category/community Unfortunately the developers are not the most responsive ones, but I hope there are community members who can guide you, as the product is definitely worth it.
I've disabled pocket, why is Firefox still calling home to 3 or 4 different pocket domains every couple minutes?

The next logical step in this chain usually looks something like "OK, so my queries and their responses are secure, but why do I trust [my ISP/this third party/this faceless megacorporation] exactly?", and...honetly, you shouldn't. One or two more questions and the next thing you know you're running your own full recursive resolver stack.
When do you think Chrome on Android will get extension support?

I wasn't personally particularly happy with any one provider's offering, and didn't want to needlessly include a third party, so I stood up my own APDNS proxy with an iterating nameserver behind it.
NextDNS with OPNsense or Unifi USG
2 projects | reddit.com/r/nextdns | 20 Aug 2021
I have nextdns CLI installed on OPNSense but I'm looking for a plugin for OPNsense since I have zero visibility with the CLI Anyone know if this is coming soon or in the works? this page says "coming soon": https://github.com/nextdns/nextdns/wiki and this says that nextdns doesn't work with with unbound: https://github.com/NLnetLabs/unbound/issues/132
Pi-hole seems to slow down apple device connections

The HTTPS query type is not to be confused with the protocol of the same name. The handling of this query type was only implemented recently in unbound and hasn't been introduced in a major release yet. These queries are basically blocked by unbound not knowing what to do with them. This should not have any negative consequences, though, as the HTTPS query type itself is not standardized yet and is only specified in a draft so far. Domains will continue to be resolved via A or AAAA resource records.
Understanding Unbound (and more about DNS)
1 project | reddit.com/r/pihole | 8 Aug 2021
Does it actually support upstream DoH? I can't find any documentation on it, this pull request is still open. From what I can tell they only added support for Unbound to accept downstream DoH requests when acting as a server.
My ISP starts hijacking dns servers so unbound stopped working
6 projects | reddit.com/r/pihole | 18 Jun 2021
unbound support DoH to the client (they call it downstream), but it doesn't support DoH to the DNS provider (which at least someone else call upstream)
How does Pi-Hole/Unbound handle DoH? Can't the Pi-Hole see it because it is encrypted? Or is the query only encrypted between client and Pihole?
2 projects | reddit.com/r/pihole | 6 Jun 2021
Noteworthy here is that unbound currently doesn't handle these new query types, but implementation is ongoing.

opn sense stil uses unbound 1.13.1 and unbound has a bug that causes it to crash that is investigated and it affects not limited to pfsense. https://github.com/NLnetLabs/unbound/issues/411
