You may try something like Blokada (https://blokada.org) or NextDNS (https://nextdns.io/)
What free online service you're surprised that people don't use more often?

PiHole will do this for your entire network. There's also NextDNS if you'd rather use a cloud service (easier setup). Once you start using a network wide DNS blocker you'll never want to go back.

nextdns.io became top root domain after I installed nextDNS app on iPhone and MAC and wondering if this is known. Before when I only was using NextDNS cli on router I didn't have this issue

I use nextdns.
NextDNS seems to be really slow at resolving domains
1 project | reddit.com/r/nextdns | 16 Jan 2022
You can also install NextDNS on your router (if supported), which will let your router cache the requests, which may improve latency : https://github.com/nextdns/nextdns/wiki

1 project | reddit.com/r/MicrosoftEdge | 16 Jan 2022
I have setup NextDNS on my computer and I can recommend you to try it. It should filter a lot of microsoft trackers and you can try it and see in log on my.nextdns.io.

Hey, try a DNS alternative like NextDNS which allows you to block ads. Just go to https://nextdns.io and you can find steps there
Self Hosted Ad Blockers?

Depending on what you're trying to accomplish, you can also load the blocklists directly onto your hosts. For example, hblock (https://github.com/hectorm/hblock) has a few scripts to format its blocklist for your platform. The StevenBlack list's github page has instructions for adding to a range of platforms and links to several hosts/blocklist managers (https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts). You can also point your router at an adblocking public DNS such as https://adguard-dns.com/en/public-dns.html (free) or https://nextdns.io/ (might cost). Lastly, depending on what router you run, you could load the host lists directly onto the router.
A good adblock?

Definitely NetGuard https://github.com/M66B/NetGuard. It's a Firewall that works via the VPN function of android, meaning it can block ads in all apps. You cannot use the PlayStore version as it does not have adblock. Here is how to enable it: https://github.com/M66B/NetGuard/blob/master/ADBLOCKING.md
Invizible Pro, personalDNSfilter, NetGuard, RethinkDNS etc... Which privacy/security app/apps solution do you use? If it differs from the default setup, would you mind briefly explaining what setup are you running and why? Cheers :)

Netguard if you are after servers or ip addresses an app talks to and if data packet content and volumes is not your main concern. It's installing itself as a vpn though. and it's open source
I was looking at the space used on my Android phone, and the Mantis app is taking up more than 3 GB for my 215 shots! Why is the app so large? Is it backing up data somewhere to the cloud, so I can slim it down locally?
1 project | reddit.com/r/MantisX | 19 Oct 2021
Not an answer to your question but: If you are concerned about where your data goes consider installing NetGuard ...preferably via an APK outside of google play like F-Droid or the github repository directly https://github.com/M66B/NetGuard/releases
Console Mode X32i

2) Load NetGuard via APK and prevent DNS resolution per: https://github.com/M66B/NetGuard/blob/master/ADBLOCKING.md. This is basically the same as (2) except done within the console.

1 project | reddit.com/r/WormFanfic | 7 Aug 2021
You can get adblock on your phone (Android phones, at least. I have no idea if you can for Iphones), it's just more complicated, since it can't be downloaded through the play store. I personally use Netguard.
