How to run code without node?
In addition to the other responses, there are node packages like pkg and nexe that you can use to package the node executable and your code into a single executable.
-
Can I use Node for general scripting? (Like python)
yes, you can even compile your js if you want a single executable, with things like nexe
-
Using NodeJs code on a webpage
https://github.com/nexe/nexe is another.
- nexe - create a single executable out of your node.js apps
- Nexe: Create a single executable out of your Node.js apps
- caxa -Package Node.js applications into executable binaries
- Deno 1.13 Release
- This finally happened: rust made more sense

Building executable as user for distribution from a progressive web app
The builder will be written in C#. And this has no other reason than that I am very comfortable creating executables with it. This should also be possible in NodeJS if you are using pkg or nexe. On top of that C# can be compiled for Linux, Mac, and Windows. So you can distribute this to multiple platforms.

how to create "deployment version"
Maybe you're looking for something like nexe for easily creating an executable file out of your node project? I have never tried it though.

Caxa: Package Node.js applications into executable binaries
For those curious how it compares to existing solutions:

We Donβt Use Docker (We Donβt Need It)
I too love how simple the infrastructure can get using Goβs tools. At the same time, I prefer Node.js for the libraries & bigger community. So I developed a tool called caxa which brings the best of both worlds, packaging any Node.js into a single binary. Check it out at https://github.com/leafac/caxa
