Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

We built an app that measures internet performance - we’re back!
To be specific in my thought here: we could fairly easily allow an admin to modify the endpoint in our client to measure loss & latency to an internal address or service in the cloud rather than our default. Speeds on the other hand are something we can't support just yet as it would require a test server near that endpoint. For what it's worth, the speed test application we use does have other examples for deploying your own test server. We'd need to do a deep dive into what that looks like from an engineering and business perspective before enabling teams to spin these up and use them as targets.

Finger-pointing between me and Comcast... looking for a network monitoring module/MiniPC/Box to plug into a customer's site that will collect network health data over time
Speed tests will need DNS to resolve the discovery API that locates the nearest server to test against, and ultimately post the metrics to our API.

We built an app that measures internet performance
Great question. Right now we run on average about 6-8 tests per day that are randomly scheduled per the ndt7 spec . We are actually working on a ticket that will allow you to schedule your tests in a manner where you create a black-list time table. For instance, if you're running at your corporate office, you can blacklist 9-5 so you're not impeding normal work.

Wireguard so much more stable than OpenVPN
I switched to Wireguard a few weeks back and the stability of the connection is so much better. I test the connections speeds nightly with SpeedTestTracker: here is the result.

Internet Speedtest Docker?
In case you (/u/DanielB1990 and /u/hmmmm83) don't know, thats a long dead project which hasnt been updated in ages. The community went on to make a new actively maintained speedtest tracker that you can replace it with though - https://github.com/alexjustesen/speedtest-tracker

How to monitor network usage?
P.P.S. You do not need to monitor traffic to know how much you really need. Add up maximum amount of video streaming done/possible in your house. Netflix 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) 4K: 15 Mbps MS Teams 1.5Mbps per HD stream. It is more likely than not that your wifi coverage is not ideal or there some interference from neighbours than that you need more than 100Mbps (mind you during peak hours that can drop... here is quick way to monitor that https://github.com/alexjustesen/speedtest-tracker )
