For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

License plate Camera
motioneyeos is fantastic, but last i checked it wasn't being maintained any more… since you're already using ubuntu, the project is available without the full os distro: motionEye.
- Looking to self host a simple video surveillance system using an old laptop + webcam, suggestions?
- [LOOKING FOR] A decent web-based RTSP streaming application
-
What should I install on my extra laptop?
If your laptop has a webcam you can install motioneye to turn it into a surveillance camera https://github.com/motioneye-project/motioneye.
-
Is MotionEye still a thing
Motion OS has unfortunately stopped but MotionEye itself is still on-going (last update was a month ago to two yaml files).
-
I'm feeling demoralized. Need some inspiration. What's a way you've successfully used your RPi 3b to do something without compromise?
2 handle CCTV via MotionEye (https://github.com/motioneye-project/motioneye) using some cheapy Wansview cameras (inside and out...originally to keep an eye on a new dog while we were working upstairs). 1 handles the UI of MotionEye, and is also used for various ad-hoc processes (e.g. SpotDL, Samba etc) where having an always-on machine is handy.

Save JPG image from IP camera stream for timelapse
Well that's exactly the thing. Atm I am using motionEYE, but I have 3 streams that have to run at full 2K resolution in order to get a clear jpeg. That is quite intensive for the cpu it runs on, so I was trying to find another option that uses the least amout of resources :)
-
Wyze API
you could use motioneye as your backend. It does not have an api per se, but does allow for webhooks and custom commands on motion detection. You would also need to run either a bridge or run the hacks to get feeds for motioneye.
-
Wyze is forcing 2FA on everyone to login?
The solution is simple, cut them out of the picture. Wyze's software is always the weakest link of their products and can easily be replaced with software of your own with motioneye for recording. These folks bad mouthing you for being pissed about this should be ashamed of themselves for behaving in such an immature manor to someone who has a legitimate complaint. Just because you love the 2fa koolaid, doesnt mean everyone else does. Also, protip, centralized password or 2fa managers are just a centralized point of failure and makes compromising you all the more easier.
-
Wyze Cam RTSP support removed
Now once you have RTSP running on the camera you are able to take the video and store it somewhere else. You don't specifically need a NAS- you can run a software interface that is designed to play back and view camera interface feeds- like BlueIris, https://blueirissoftware.com/ MotionEye https://github.com/motioneye-project/motioneye or even directly view the video with VLC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEZnU0PRb0o

Self Hosted SaaS Alternatives
Im fully onboard with the geneneral idea as a target.
Right now it's for early early adopters. Hosting stuff is still a painm But we are getting better at hosting stuff, finding stable patterns, paving the path. Hint, it's not doing less, it's not simpler options: it's adopting & making our own industrial scale tooling. https://github.com/onedr0p/home-ops is a great early & still strong demonstration; the up front cost od learning is high, but there's the biggest ecosystem of support you can imagine, and once you recognize the patterns, you can get into flow states, make stuff happen, with extreme leverage far beyond where humanity has ever been. Building the empowered individual is happening, and we're using stable good patterns that will mean the individual isnt so off on their own doing ops- they'll have a lot more accrued human experiene at their back, their running of services isnt as simple to understand from the start but goes much much further, is much more mature & well supported in the long run.

How do you manage your deployments?
I'm using external-secrets with 1password in my home-ops repo, it works great!
