mj's dev report May-June 2022 (3/3)
Rucknium, J-Bermann and me are breaking down the decoy algorithm in order to better understand its flow by performing statistical tests on it. For this, we need to have an alternative implementation. Python was chosen to be the language, which offers a large variety of frameworks and is widely used among Researchers. My take is being documented here.

Private Main Net
If you copy the instructions verbatim in the link, it works fine.
Use the same setup as: https://github.com/moneroexamples/private-testnet but don't pass --testnet.

Is there a tool like Ganache for Monero?
It’s not really as pretty as that Ganache but you can setup a private testnet like this. There is a —regtest mode with a —fixed difficulty flag for monerod so you can insta mine blocks, you might have to search through git history for documentation though. I think a tool like that for Monero would be really cool tbh
What are some alternatives?

monero-gui - Monero: the secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency
monero-patches - Patches that are not meant to be integrated or are not yet integrated, but can be useful ad-hoc solutions.
gitian-builder-mj - Build packages in a secure deterministic fashion inside a VM
