Edgar, Build a Dyson Swarm
Been there, done that.
Nothing beats industrial Minecraft (in it's prime, which it isn't in atm as far as I konw) IMO.
Not even close, when considering the ability to add magic/farming/computer stuff.
Though Minetest[0] has some pretry cool packs.

Is it time for a new Minecraft?
If you're interested, I'd recommend checking out MineTest. It's more of an engine than a game but a very good example of what this could be like.

The boiling frog of digital freedom
Microsoft showing it's totalitarian real character again. So happy that Minetest[1] exists and gives that warm Open Source glow, just knowing that your using Microsoft free software and it works fine on Linux too.

Questions about Potential Capabilities of Minetest
Are you referring to my ancient dynamic_forceload work? I didn't think I ever posted that anywhere, I got 90% done writing it and then discovered that forceload doesn't actually cause ABMs to run (which was my actual goal) and so didn't polish it up for release. It should theoretically be safe for the general public to place as many forceload blocks as they want, there's a queueing system that means that if someone spams them everywhere they won't overload the system or reduce other players' access to forceloading.
What are some alternatives?
Mindustry - The automation tower defense RTS
VoxelPlugin - Voxel Plugin for Unreal Engine
Teeworlds - A retro multiplayer shooter
Legend of the Green Dragon - Core functionality for Legend of the Green Dragon, a text-based RPG game.
Quizmaster - A web-app for conducting a quiz over the internet
irrlicht - Minetest's fork of Irrlicht
RconCli - RCON client for executing queries on game server.
A Dark Room - A Dark Room - A Minimalist Text Adventure
multiserver - [DEPRECATED: use mt-multiserver-proxy instead] Minetest reverse proxy supporting multiple servers and media multiplexing
No-Chat-Reports - Disable Player Chat Reporting and make user messages untrackable.
Cubiks-2048 - Game: Create the number 2048. Cubes with same number merge!
Posio - A multiplayer geography game using Websockets
