Matrix-Libera IRC Bridge Temporary Shutdown, a Retrospective (2023)
I did the same except federated and it's pretty easy if you have some experience with Ansible and Docker. This repo has a great Ansible playbook that will set up the whole thing for you on whatever VM or VPS you point it at:

Ask HN: Recommendations for an alternative native chat client? (Slack, Discord)
As some others have said, matrix is great at this.
I use this ansible playbook to set it all up: https://github.com/spantaleev/matrix-docker-ansible-deploy it supports slack and discord too.
You can also use beeper which is hosted if you don't want to self host. They employ one of the major bridge Devs so they know what they're doing.
There's also element one from the Devs of matrix but they don't support all services you're looking for.

Second Phone, Same Signal
Exactly yeah, I used this bridge with this playbook

Self Hosting Matrix Server
You could maybe check out this URL about setting up Oracle free tier but it could be outdated. I just recommend using the Matrix Ansible Playbook

Show HN: Open-source private home security camera system (end-to-end encryption)
Sure, just wanted to tell you about it, as this seems to be defacto standard for foss android apps, for example most if not all https://matrix.org clients use it for push notifications (when you use their de googled build, or don't have play services) available. I also use a Signal fork with UnifiedPush and have some server alert scripts which post to my self-hosted ntfy instance, and the ntfy app itself will display them (otherwise for the Messengers, the Notifications will be from the messenger app itself, as these apps get "notified" aboout a notification and then do their own thing).

The ACF plugin on the WordPress directory has been taken over by WordPress.org
Well, unlike WPEngine, Automattic and Matt make significant contribution beyond their ecosystem, here are some:
- Let's encrypt: https://letsencrypt.org/sponsors/
- Matrix's open protocol: https://matrix.org/
- The PHP Foundation: https://thephp.foundation/
- Open Source Initiative: https://opensource.org/
- And the list goes on: contributing and sponsoring many projects and developers that everyone using the web (including you) benefited from
Please educate yourself before spreading FUD about people who made great contributions constantly to the open web, entire industry, and promoted open source globally.

The Home Server Journey - 4: Enter The Matrix
If you're a old school person wishing to host your own messaging, I bet you'd go for IRC or XMPP. But I'm more of a late millennial, so it's easier to get drawn to fancy stuff like Matrix, a protocol for federated communication

I'll be adding to this cluster in the future too as we continue development on Xeme which is our new XMPP library as well as Myna which is our new Matrix library.

How do you setup your gnome extension development environment?
After some digging I got an active forum in matrix called extensions-gnome. I relentlessly asked so many questions to the members until I get what I need and finally I was able to have a good dev environment.

Discord has been using ML to determine the gender and age of some of its users
The beginning of enshitification of discord (while 100% expected) for some reason hits harder then any other service I've used throughout all these years. It has entirely replaced social media for me. It just felt more organic to me then anything else.
So... since I've heard about the ads coming to discord, and I have looked into alternatives.
They do exist, in varying quality, and there are programs for some of them that make a "bridge" from a discord server to your new platform. It's possible to have your cake and eat it to.
Matrix looks really close, but it needs ALOT of love. I have high hopes for matrix because of the idea of it. Perhaps my lackluster experience was because I didn't choose the best client available. I'm still trying new things here.

Spacebar I have yet to try but it's on my radar.

I just wanted to see if anyone else had other recommendations for me to try. I really would appreciate help here. Hopefully something open source and self hosted so I can stop migrating and sink some roots in somewhere.
What are some alternatives?
