If you code at all, then Foundry jumps even higher up the recommendation list since it's designed intentionally to allow people to build stuff and add functionality. As someone who used to mess with R20 macros and their proprietary API, this is probably one of my favorite benefits to Foundry. They have some typical documentation though if you prefer examples the community macros repo is great for that.

Read some of the shorter/simpler macros from https://github.com/foundry-vtt-community/macros to get a sense of how they work.

This macro in the FoundryVTT Community Macros GitHub repository "selects all actors of the same name on the scene." I haven't tested it, but these macros have never given me issues in the past, and I recommend checking out that repo if there's ever something you're looking for.

Quick size control (#2) is generally handled by macros. There's a macro for quickly swapping tokens between 1x1 and 2x2 in the community macros. If you want some that will just bump a token up or down 1 grid size, I can get you mine personal ones in a bit when I'm at my main computer/

If you're willing to learn some javascript you can code macros yourself for many useful functionalities. As mentioned before Crymic does have useful macros for sale but some of them require modules like Midiqol so it will really depend on your modules and the amount of time you can commit to learning macros/scripting. I do it using Item Macro, and Midi-QoL, I think I stole this code from u/_Crymic, he has some useful spell macros at https://gitlab.com/crymic/foundry-vtt-macros/-/tree/8.x/

If you have midiQol you can have a choice macro pop up when the user goes to attack if you're tech savvy enough (or put it as like "[Grapple the enemy]" in the versatile chat.

Trust me, I felt extremely frustrated not long ago by the whole macro thing. Three months ago, "Hello World" was the extent of my Javascript ability. Now I've managed to make some pretty cool macros for myself, and have even coded my own module. And I got there by: picking apart other peoples' simple macros (whether from Community Macros, stuff on the discord, or other users' github pages), experimenting in the console, looking at exported JSON of actors/items, perusing the Foundry API (and github pages of various modules/game-systems I'm using), and asking a bunch of questions on #macro-polo.
