LURE development progress update (December 2022)
A few months ago, I announced LURE, the AUR alternative for non-Arch distros. As of yesterday, LURE now has a web interface containing all the packages and all the information about them. It is available at https://lure.arsenm.dev/. I've also created a logo for LURE, which is used on that site.

The truth about Mac, Windows and Linux
There is a very interesting new project called lure which aims to bring AUR like features to most distros. I've been using it to manage some apps on my home server.

What is your favorite non native package manager/format?
Appimages and LURE

PSA: For all you ex-Arch users out there, check out `makedeb` and `lure` for all of your out-of-band software needs
lure - More ambitious in its goals: wants to bring PKGBUILD to more than just APT
- Share Your Code.. Share your most unique piece of Go code.

LURE 0.0.2 Released
To find the less obvious bugs and missing features, and to increase the usefulness of LURE, I'd like to ask anyone who is willing to add packages to the repo at https://github.com/Arsen6331/lure-repo. The documentation for LURE's build scripts is available here: https://github.com/Arsen6331/lure/blob/master/docs/build-scripts.md.

Would it be technically possible for an arch server to build and serve aur packages to other machines/distros?
Debian has the MPR https://mpr.makedeb.org/

PSA: For all you ex-Arch users out there, check out `makedeb` and `lure` for all of your out-of-band software needs
makedeb - Like makepkg, but produces installable *.deb files. There are already lots of packages in the MPR

Introducing Mist: An AUR-helper like application for Debian and Ubuntu based systems
Mist is powered by the MPR, an AUR-like repository that's also for Debian and Ubuntu based systems (of which I'm also the project lead for, as well as the makedeb project listed below). In short, it uses pretty much the same PKGBUILD format that you'd see on Arch Linux, but uses them to build .deb packages instead of Arch Linux packages.

LURE: AUR on non-Arch distros
Plus, well, there's already pacstall and makedeb for Ubuntu-based and Debian-based, as well as the option of using distrobox, junest, and eventually Atoms to just get a portable Arch environment or just using Conty if you only want a few specific things.

AUR is the swiss army knife of every GNU/Linux l33t haxxx0r
ohh, i see. Keep your eyes here, then: https://mpr.makedeb.org/

Looking for tips to not break Debian: Software sources
There was a project to build a Debian User Repository, but I've never used it.
-
Thoughts on switching to LMDE 5 instead of upgrading to Mint 21 when it is out of beta.
For a Debian replacement of the AUR: https://mpr.makedeb.org/ It is fairly new so not as well established as the AUR.
-
Is there NO alternative to the aur?
There is something similar to AUR for Debian (https://mpr.makedeb.org). However, it currently has far fewer packages.

Installed WINE, Ubuntu commited suicide. Guess that's goodbye 👋
This is why the makedeb, MPR, Pacstall, and una projects are so exciting. They could bring that robustness and ease of installation to Ubuntu. Hopefully some day the MPR becomes as popular as the AUR.
What are some alternatives?
pacstall - An AUR-inspired package manager for Ubuntu
makedeb - A simplicity-focused packaging tool for Debian archives
junest - The lightweight Arch Linux based distro that runs, without root privileges, on top of any other Linux distro.
nixGL - A wrapper tool for nix OpenGL application [maintainer=@guibou]
lure-repo - The default repository for LURE
geos - Geometry Engine, Open Source
Atoms - Easily manage Linux Chroot(s) and Containers with Atoms.
org.blender.Blender
unlocker - ⚠️ Replaced by ItalyPaleAle/Revaulter! -- Wrap and unwrap keys using a key vault with admin consent
lrpc - Simple, lightweight, multi-codec RPC library for Go.
arch2appimage - This is a python script that downloads Arch Linux packages (Official/Chaotic AUR) and converts to an AppImage executable
errors - Go stdlib errors package extension.
