Why I decided to learn (and teach) Clojure
Elm is a statically typed language inspired by Haskell. The natural step would be to use Elm on the frontend and Haskell on the backend. And that's what I tried to do. I read with some difficulty the Learn You a Haskell for Great Good! book (available for free here) and learned a lot of cool stuff. But creating a complete backend using Haskell proved to be more than I could chew. So I decided to look for alternatives...

Are there any sectors that use Haskell as a main programming language?
There's quite a few finance companies listed on this haskell-companies list (and also 7 different blockchain companies). Standard Chartered presented how they use Haskell at HIW 2021.

Also, it might be a better list if the companies mainly used haskell. Having Meta or Microsoft doesn't mean all that much as they probably use every language under the sun somewhere.
As mentioned on https://github.com/erkmos/haskell-companies, IMVU uses Haskell pretty extensively. Originally the server-side portion of the product was almost entirely PHP3 (with some bits of perl on the backend for things like Memcached) and then over time large portions were rewritten in Haskell (one service is/was Erlang, I think.)
