Linux Mint Cinnamon is beautiful !
hey, I am new as well and I figured this out a week back. basically download the theme you want to. for eg https://github.com/keeferrourke/la-capitaine-icon-theme Then right click this and extract here. Then the go to the home Directory. Right click and check show hidden files. Then scroll down and find '.icons', take the previously extracted folder and paste it here in this .icons folder Now when you go to themes you'll see that you can change your icons to this new la-capitaine theme

Nop, it's similar to white-sur icons though. This are the icons I'm using https://github.com/keeferrourke/la-capitaine-icon-theme

Vanilla OS and the next-generation Linux desktop
Fedora Workstation comes with GNOME by default. OTOH the Fedora Everything ISO lets you do a customised install. I recently did a minimal KDE install using this guide for my old laptop.

Fedora vs Fedora KDE
You can do the same with KDE or Xfce (guide for Debian) with minimal effort involved. All of these will idle very low, usually around 400-500mb. Just use what's comfy to you! :)

Fedora 33 everything Wayland/Sway
You can follow this guide (just ignore the KDE stuff), to get you booted into the minimal environment. Then, install GDM and Sway which should pull in all the dependencies you need for a barebones desktop. Also I recommend you install the @multimedia and @networkmanager-submodules package groups to make sure your sound and network stuff just works. Hope thats enough to get you going.
