kivy VS KivyMD

We will create this complete Python registration form using Kivy. We get started by installing Kivy, a powerful Python framework for building interactive applications.

I have a multi-threaded app using Kivy for the GUI and sometimes need to update the GUI from a background thread. This app is a few years old and I recently updated to Kivy 2.2 and am now getting an exception with the message "Cannot create graphics instruction outside the main Kivy thread" -- which is related to this change in Kivy 2.1: https://github.com/kivy/kivy/pull/7270

I suggest you use kivy which is suitable for the desktop but also has the advantage of being one of few options for creating Python based native(ish) mobile apps (for IoS and Android app stores).

Anyone has some experience with Kivy [1]? It seems that it checks off some of my requirements, like cross-platform, supporting touch interfaces, ease of development, allows complex/fancy UIs as well, etc.

There are hot reload tools like kivy.tools.kviewer and KivyMD HotReload and I think others... but maybe they used something else, hard to tell

These are the requirements in buildozer.spec that worked: requirements = kivy==master, https://github.com/kivymd/KivyMD/archive/master.zip

Yes, the difference at spec file is that you specify the url of master version from kivymd and kivy==master. I usually do pip install "kivy[base] @ https://github.com/kivy/kivy/archive/master.zip" and pip install https://github.com/kivymd/KivyMD/archive/master.zip.

python -m pip install https://github.com/kivymd/KivyMD/archive/master.zip

I don't use kivymd so if there is a way to do this I am blissfully unaware... Sometimes it's necessary to vendor code and hack it, you could copy the textfield directory from your kivymd version to your project. Rename the files and classes, and hack it to do whatever you want.

I've did some digging and it appears it is a bug in some opengl shaders. You can't really fix it yourself so to get rid of it install the master version of both kivy and kivymd from github. Fixed and merged in this issue

Looking at github, I do NOTsee a demos folder. https://github.com/kivymd/KivyMD I also do not have a demos folder on my Windows install of kivyMD.

It sounds like you want a kivy button, with some of the styling from KivyMD. I'd suggest looking at the source code for the KivyMD button, and creating your own button. You can see the source here: https://github.com/kivymd/KivyMD/tree/master/kivymd/uix/button
