How would you go about building your own email marketing system like Mailchimp?
Someone on r/selfhosted built an alternative for Mailchimp called Keila a while ago. (https://github.com/pentacent/keila). I haven't tried it myself but this sounds promising. You can use your own mailserver with it (which I recommend you do not selfhost for business purposes). As it is licensed right now, it should be way cheaper to use this instead of Mailchimp.

Update: I’m building a self-hosted Mailchimp alternative (Keila) and I’ve added one of your most requested features!
Adding custom data (e.g. tags, categories, age, etc) to signup forms (GitHub issue)
If that doesn’t fix it, please feel free to post a bug report with more details here: https://github.com/pentacent/keila/issues

Selfhosted newsletter maker?
I've used Keila in the past and was pretty happy w/ it.
- Ask HN: What service are you using to send marketing emails?

My Open-Source toolkit for 2024
Listmonk – An open-source alternative to Mailchimp just released version 3. It’s great as a stand-alone newsletter. Also seems like a low lift for capturing leads for side projects.

We use listmonk, extremely flexible and lightweight as well! I want to try to build a Hubspot integration to fetch contacts directly from Hubspot.
Here is another great self hosted solution that I came across. Really high performance (written in Go). No affiliation but well done open source product.

Show HN: Dittofeed – 1-Click deploy, self-host Mailchimp alternative
Hey, looks very cool! If you could share a comparison against Listmonk[1], that'd be useful.
All the best!

Show HN: CreatorKit – self-host OSS alternative to Mailchimp
It seems that the license not MIT or GPL. The Git repository is here
https://github.com/ServiceStack/CreatorKit.
The deployment also seems rather complicated for just a UI that would use something like SES in the background.

I use Listmonk and it have no complaints

Show HN: I made a MailChimp alternative that connects to your database
fwiw I've been looking to find a MailChimp or such alternative that's FOSS.
I've both tried ListMonk and Bespoke but both lack on features I might need.
Might just roll my own at this point lmao

How would you go about building your own email marketing system like Mailchimp?
Yeah, "don't" is the correct answer. If you're looking for something feature-rich, production-ready and easy to integrate with, I'd say go with listmonk. Plug in any SMTP server(s) you like and you should be golden.
- Is there a good example of an open source non-trivial (DB connection, authentication, authorization, data validation, tests, etc...) Go API?
What are some alternatives?
