How can I learn to adapt a layout?
Maybe you can get Portuguese bigrams frequency and run this: https://github.com/bclnr/kb-layout-evaluation I don’t know how different it is from French or Spanish.

Whats the reason y'all went OLKB?
And indeed quantitative studies tend to show that Colemak can be very good for other languages, for instance French: https://github.com/bclnr/kb-layout-evaluation (although you need to modify it slightly to add accented characters to reasonable spots). Interestingly enough, French variant of Qwerty (Azerty) is much worse than Colemak or anything.

Has anybody ever done a BUDGET ErgoMechKeyboard?
There's been a few curvy keyboards made out of laser-cut pieces - one with acrylic and a single curve, and one more recently ... as I recall, made from thin (1/8") MDF, with a double curve. (Oho, here's a non-ergo laser-cut from cardboard) Aha, https://github.com/nickcoutsos/dactyl-flatpacked!

MM Dactyl
It looks too be based on my https://github.com/nickcoutsos/dactyl-flatpacked but I can tell there are some customizations, most notably the thumb cluster. Would be interesting to see what else has changed.

First proof of concept of a lasercut, modular keyboard with wells. it will be quick to produce, an easy to change angles by changing out one or two cheap pieces
Are you aware of the flatpacked dactyl and the Acrylic_3D_KB?
