Roll20 Alternatives?
For just general campaign management, e.g. keeping track of NPCs, locations, session logs, and all the other generally in-universe stuff I use Kanka. I've tried a few other sites, but never liked them as much. It makes it very easy to keep track of things for a sandbox game with a lot of stuff going on and hundreds of active NPCs. No more "Who is that guy? When did we last see him? Wait, he's the guy that the cousin of the murdered magistrate was suspicious of, right?" because I can just drop a quick link that pulls all of that information together.

Campaign organizer?
I highly recommend Kanka.io. You can log, link and share anything campaign related you could possibly want.

Worldbuilding tools
Kanka
Maybe Kanka. It's similar to WorldAnvil that is mostly free. The only difference between each type of membership is the file size limit of what you're trying to upload. But AFAIK even as a free user, you can upload as much shit a you can as long as each individual file is below the limit (3MB for maps, 1MB for other files for free users). It's a dealbreaker for some since they have to downscale their maps and artworks to upload there.

My Open-Source toolkit for 2024
Outline is another open-source tool I’ve been using lately for note-taking and knowledgebase purposes. Previously, my app of choice for this was Bear.app. It worked out well for markdown notes, but I needed something more like a wiki to organize content. I discovered Outline in late 2022 and found it to be a snappy experience and just what I needed: nestable collections, markdown, and a decent search experience. Outline delivers that and more. It also offers real-time collaborative editing like Google Docs and public shares for either a single page or for all nested pages of a share.

Outline: Self hostable, realtime, Markdown compatible knowledge base
Just be careful that while it is self-hostable and the source is available, it is not open source [1,2]. If this is something important for your consideration before using it.

Outline is a simple, fast and sweet Wiki software, I recommend, this is an open source projet, the community is reactive and even the SaaS platform pricing is really honest !
