Ask HN: Why the Obsession with Note Taking?
6 projects | news.ycombinator.com | 27 Jan 2022
Because it's a productivity fetish and a whole lot of wishful thinking that a new app can give you superpowers whereas a proper search functionality to find what you are looking for is sufficient in 90% of the cases. To reap its benefits, and for the remaining 10% of the cases, you need some simple but consistent conventions and discipline to document things that matters. It's no magic, but people love treating it as such. I always find everything I am looking for by searching in only three different places: (1) my mailbox [I never delete emails but archive], (2) my Dropbox [which OCRs my scans as well], and (3) my note-taking app Joplin.
Outside of Reddit, what do you use Markdown for?

However, Joplin could also something for you. Joplin - Github

Another really good program (that I personally prefer) is Joplin: https://joplinapp.org/24 projects | news.ycombinator.com | 26 Jan 2022
I use Joplin, which has a similar feature set but also mobile apps:
It supports various types of file stores for syncing between devices. I've used OneDrive and WebDAV. The project has also recently launched a cloud service for people who want to sync between devices but don't want to set up a network file store.

This is what finally got me to switch to Joplin a few weeks ago and I can't believe I didn't do it sooner. Much much faster on PC and Android than Evernote was and the importation of all my notes was painless.

Is there a more private free alternative to Google Keep?
1 project | reddit.com/r/productivity | 22 Jan 2022
I use Joplin.
Please, help me choose between two evils
1 project | reddit.com/r/privacy | 21 Jan 2022
Idk which is less evil but since you are looking for a privacy oriented task app, may I suggest Joplin. Its open source & support sync with third party cloud services like Dropbox & Onedrive. You dont have to worry about your data since joplin will encrypt it b4 uploading to cloud. Just dont forget to enable end-to-end encryption from the encryption config menu, you need to create a password.

I've started to use Joplin and haven't looked back. It's open source and their business model is hosted cloud syncing. I already have a self-hosted Nextcloud instance running and WebDAV is supported for syncing as well so I'm not paying anything at the moment.
They also have apps on desktop and mobile. The apps may not have the most polished UI but they work extremely well.
easily track when files were created or modified?

You can use the frontmatter for this. I like the Linter plugin bc it can easily create and update that for you. As for linking to the calendar, there are a few ways to achieve that. You could probably use DataView with the frontmatter mentioned above, but I am not as familiar with that. I just the Calendar + Periodic Notes plugins to create daily notes using a template, which includes this:
Tip: Set a hotkey to Toggle left/right sidebar

I also have other tabs in the top-right pane I can choose: Calendar, Backlinks, Tag Pane, and Todo List.

(optionally) lets you use Obsidian's jump to daily note button if you want to touch/refer to it without leaving Obsidian. Probably also would work with Caldendar Plugin but that's too much overlap between programs for my taste

Calendar View plug-in numbers weeks wrong (Does anyone know how to get in contact with the developer?)
1 project | reddit.com/r/ObsidianMD | 4 Jul 2021
Your best bet is probably to create a GitHub issue on the project. A quick look also brings up this issue which seems to be a similar (if not the same) problem you're having.
How do I split the right sidepane so I can see the calender and the related daily note?
1 project | reddit.com/r/ObsidianMD | 24 May 2021
In this github page you can see the guy's calendar add-on and below that a split view, with that daily note or something similar.
