There is a project called insporation*, which is the side-side-project from one of the core team members and he is joined by another core team member there. This is not (yet?) an "official" or even feature-complete app, but it's based 100% on the API and will continue to be improved. You might want to follow this project, and give it a try! :)

Because my father does not allow me to self host from my home network, can you recommend a service to host stuff that I would be selfhosting?
Either Bluebubbles or weMessage, both are open source apps that allow you to use imesseging on android devices. That means I need a Mac OS vm.
