Reasons to change the default terminal to Warp
Moreover, there are tools were made on top of those to provide more functionalities, and fill some of the gaps, for instance, oh-my-zsh, Prezto, oh-my-fish, and much more. However, the default embedded terminal in macOS is still lacking something. That's why iTerm and other terminal like Hyper. It provides you a set of customization to boost your productivity.

Why Sixel?
Amongst newer 21st century OSS terminal emulators, there has been some work at revisiting better ways to encode raster graphics over telnet. In particular, you might want to look at George Nachman's iTerm2 and Kovid Goyal's Kitty, both of which support Sixel and their own newly-designed custom protocols for raster graphics, among other newfangled terminal features. Wezterm, another recent OSS terminal emulator, also support's Kitty's protocol.

Switching over from Linux… some questions
It is Unix. Note that if you use Bash, you'll need to install the latest version yourself, Zsh is the default shell these days. Homebrew is a common package manager. And while macOS ships with a terminal app, called Terminal, others can be installed. I prefer iTerm. Good luck and have fun!

Some keys behaving incorrectly within VIM on Sway
Not sure what layer you were talking about, but it seems kitty started to send NumLock status with those keys as described here: https://github.com/kovidgoyal/kitty/issues/5885

Wayland blows ass and mostly functions as a launcher for x.org processes. Nobody needs, wants or asked for Wayland. It's nobody's fault but the assholes at FreeDesktop
I'll be honest, I'd never looked into any of these terminals in any great detail, but this made me look into Kitty. I hadn't realised what an exceptional source of jerking material it was. The FAQ is excellent.

What's a good Linux terminal emulator that doesn't try to reinvent TMUX?
Been using urxvt for many years, this year I replaced it with kitty (https://sw.kovidgoyal.net/kitty/), will stay probably for as many years as urxvt :)
I enjoy Kitty’s good color support and performance, though it does have a lot of bells and whistles in which you’re not interested:
-
Overriding app icons
I'd like to change the icon of kitty to something else but not sure how. I assume there has to be an overlay of some sort involved but my attempts failed.

Can I get useless_gaps, but with a solid color between?
This may be more of a kitty terminal question.. But the top border is not displaying on my terminal (Kitty https://sw.kovidgoyal.net/kitty) for some reason.. Very strange.. All the other borders work and for other applications it work
