Modernizing my 1980s sound system

Yes, you wouldn't get this running on an existing smart speaker (without first rooting it and some serious hacking).
If you'r in the Apple ecosystem and are using AirPlay with your smart speaker(s), it's however possible to also play synchronized audio across to your own DIY speaker setup, using another open source project.
Or you could of course choose to only use your old dumb speakers with this, and they will pop up as easily selectable sound output devices on all Apple devices connected to your network.
Or combine it (and librespot, owntone...) with Snapcast to create a virtual speaker for your whole house that shows up everywhere.
A third-party Python Client for Spotify (and tips on how to make your own...)
6 projects | dev.to | 20 Sep 2022
The integration of Spotify, the great daddy of audio streamers with third-party apps has been difficult over the years. Years ago, in their beginning they liberated libspotify, coded in for integration with different clients. Integration with major audio players like Foobar, Clementine and MusicBee were working, but in 2015 the company decided to drop the new development on the library and decided to shut down the integration last June. The new feature called Spotify Connect that allows multiple device to act as remote controller for the device that its playing in real time made new possibilities. But the wheel was inventend with LibReSpot, a library written in Rust. More libraries ported from the original in Rust appeared later in Go and Java. This last one is special, since it allows to be controlled by HTTP requests and interacts with a potential client through WebSockets. So a good player is possible to be built through a GUI library, and so I picked the most user friendly GUI framework, PySimpleGUI, that wraps multiple and more complex GUI frameworks like Tkinter and PyQT providing easyness of development.
90spot - Spotify for Nintendo Switch (Proof of Concept)

Very nice! I started a similar effort a couple months back, but with the intention of using librespot along with rusted switch. I didn't get very far (basically just enough to update rusted switch for the latest libnx), but I do agree that there's gotta be some demand for a native Spotify client to use and listen to while you're playing. I'll be following. Best of luck!
Unofficial Spotify Client for the Nintendo Switch (PoC)

It's not, really – AFAIK the audio is just AES-encypted with a per-session key that you get when logging in (but it's been a long time since I looked). There are a bunch of open implementations, like https://github.com/librespot-org/librespot – I guess it's kind of an open secret that you could rip music if you really wanted to.
Certainly there's no need for "special hardware decoders" – Spotify works on loads of devices that have no support for that kind of thing.

How to run librespot as a service or let it start on boot

I got snapcast up and running, however I don't know how to start librespot and also make it start on boot. I followed these instructions for compiling librespot, however now I don't know what to do.2 projects | reddit.com/r/linux4noobs | 10 Aug 2022
Dear Spotify. Can we just get table of songs?

In favor of the alternative SDK, whose native SDK seems to be just around the corner. Otherwise there is always librespot (https://github.com/librespot-org/librespot).
7 years to go from announcing the deprecation to actually removing it seems fair to me. Miles difference from what I'd expect any other company to do (looking at you Google, who seem to announce a deprecation and go through with it in the very same month).
Spotify has shut down libspotify

At least there is still https://github.com/librespot-org/librespot I just hope they don't rely on libspotify's api endpoints or I need a new solutions for my Raspberry Pi connected speakers.12 projects | news.ycombinator.com | 18 May 2022
My raspotify/librespot install stopped working last week until i blocked apresolve.spotify.com on my network.
It seems they are switching some regions to a CDN that is not supported by librespot. There is some discussion on the librespot issues github page (https://github.com/librespot-org/librespot/issues/972)
