You will need to install homebrew. ARM users will also need Rosetta (I think), but homebrew should be the native version. Next we need wine that can run 32 bit binaries: brew install --cask --no-quarantine gcenx/wine/wine-crossover.

The standard Wine package also stopped working with the Catalina update. To get around this, we'll use a specific version of Wine, developed by Gcenx, made for MacOS 10.15+. To install it, you first need to install Homebrew. To do this, open the application Terminal (the easiest way to do this is hit Cmd + Space, then type "Terminal", then hit return), type in the following command, and hit return:

Crossover from Codeweavers (which is a version of WINE) runs 32-bit applications on post-Mojave MacOS with a 32->64-bit conversion layer and one of the free/open-source versions of WINE based on the code donated by Codeweavers (located here: https://github.com/Gcenx/homebrew-wine) does the same thing.

Ah, sorry, I assumed from you mentioning installing Wine that you had Homebrew already. Yeah, you need to install Homebrew, there's a command to copy on its website. Once that's done, you need to run the command on the page I linked above to install the fixed version of Wine. After that completes, you should be able to just run the exe (it may prompt you for permission to access a folder or two first), or if not it'll probably ask you to pick which app to use if you try (in which case you can just select Wine Crossover from the list it presents).

  • Running Windows Programs on Mac (Wineskin)

I used Wineskin to port them both to MacOS and the https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-run-windows-apps-on-your-mac web page as a guide. I just used a regular windows .ico file to change the icon in the guide. Somehow converting the .ico as it is stated in the guide did not work for me. You can download Wineskin Winery from (https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer) and use manual installation. They both needed .NET framework. That was easy with the Winetricks to find the .NET frameworks under DLL section and then run them. 1st program needed to access network shares in the domain but the link was in windows format (\\ServerName\ShareName\Folder).

I use this wrapper for WINE. That it "doesn't seem to work" when you use what you've installed from the command line doesn't tell us much. What did you do after installing it? What happened?
  • Error while trying to install Crossover on Mac
    1 project | /r/macgaming | 28 Jun 2023
I believe your issues might be because crossover is not supported on sonoma yet, its probably because sonoma is still in beta and so not much aplications can run on it, i found that wineskin server (https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer) works pretty nicely on sonoma so maybe try that.
  • Use D3DMetal on Wine 8.10 Staging

Hi, I followed this guide of u/Gcenx https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer/issues/420 and applied on wine 8.10 staging (this version https://github.com/Gcenx/macOS_Wine_builds/releases/tag/8.10) but it seems like it doesn't work I always get a stub error. My question is: I need to do something else or D3DMetal simply doesn't work on newer wine version
