No space, so I installed my rig on my window! (details on comments)
I play Automobilista2, Dirt Rally 2.0, Dirt4, Dirt3, AC, BeamNG.drive . I use the hid-tmff2 wheel driver (dkms module). Protopedal script for pedal/device emulation. Or sometimes xboxdrv if protopedal doesn't fit my use case perfectly. Everything works fine(tm) but of course as is the Linux way, things do need fiddling sometimes. But I like the learning experience and treat it more like an additional hobby.

Are there currently any Direct Drive racing wheels for driving sim/gaming available that work on Linux?
Not completely true. There exists a driver for Thrustmaster T300: https://github.com/Kimplul/hid-tmff2 Other wheels I also have seen supported are some fanatec wheels: https://github.com/gotzl/hid-fanatecff

new to this and would appreciate some advice about Linux compatible hardware.
It's a step down from Fanatec, though nicer than Logitech, but I've had a good experience using a Thrustmaster T300 wheel + T-LCM pedals + TH8A shifter in Linux. Getting FFB working was the trickiest part but solved with [this driver](https://github.com/Kimplul/hid-tmff2). The others were plug and play.

Thrustmaster T300 Ferrari Integral Racing Wheel won't work on Linux
I already tried to install this Linux Kernel Module which didn't help. I think I did something wrong while I installing the Kernel Module. If somebody already did that, please let me know what you have done exactly.

Sim racing on Linux?? 2021 H2.
To get the T300 working with FFB use this driver along with Oversteer for settings management. I still used Windows to update T300 firmware and calibrate T-LCM pedals.

F1 22 with Logitech G27 and Force Feedback fully working
According to the readme, if we don't want to run with sudo we can put 99-logitech-wheel-perms.rules file into /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/ ourselves (you will need to sudo steamos-readonly disable before copying that, so probably expect it to break post-update). As far as I can tell that's the only thing it actually needs root permissions for.

Current state of SimRacing in Linux (Updated to 2022-2)
PyLinuxWheel: Logitech steering wheels (DFGT, DFPRO, G25, G27, G29 and G920) have good support in our system. With this utility we can easily change the degrees of rotation.

Sim racing in Linux 2021 an update
PyLinuxWheel: Currently it supports a lot of Logitech Steering Wheels (from very old Steering Wheels like WingMan Formula to newer like G29 and G920) , it has more functionalities like set Force Feedback, combine pedals, export and import profiles, test pedals, set range, etc. Also, it is very easy to install as it has Appimage and deb packages.
- I want to get back into racing games, looking for suggestions on a compatible game and wheel.
